THE POSITION

Director of Operations, Physician Practices

The Director of Operations’ primary responsibility is to organize and lead the operational infrastructure of Verde Valley Medical Clinic in order to develop a “physician-led and professionally managed” culture of leadership and excellence. This includes achieving and sustaining optimal financial performance and superior quality outcomes within a culture of continuous improvement and service excellence. Effective leadership by the Director of Operations will include developing and supporting high performing teams, establishing a culture of accountability, creating a supportive learning environment, and minimizing barriers in order for the team to achieve identified goals and targets. The Director of Operations provides operational leadership and professional development to all practice managers across multiple clinic locations. In addition to operational oversight, the Director collaborates with the VP of Northern Arizona Healthcare Physician Group, the VVMC Chief Medical Officer, and the Physician Practice Council to create and implement a strategic vision for Verde Valley Medical Clinic. There are multiple physician practices that serve the following clinical areas: Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Occupational Medicine, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Primary Care, & Urology.

Successful candidates will possess the following areas:

Solid understanding & knowledge of overall physician practice/ambulatory models, business processes and clinical operations, as well as relevant financial acumen

Demonstrated ability to develop, lead and support staff to include mentoring, leadership development and alignment with program and hospital roles across the clinical care continuum

Demonstrated successful engagement, partnering and alliance building with a broad range of constituencies

Proficiency in cultivating excellent physician & staff relations

Demonstrated emotional intelligence in order to respond to crisis, unpredictable situations with staff, patients & family, in a high stress/demand work environment.

Excellent communication skills in order to work with ill and disabled customers of all ages, bilingual customers, emotionally distressed customers and families, and with hospital personnel within the hospital

Excellent analytic ability to identify and evaluate problems and recommend solutions

The incumbent needs to be a credible leader within physician practice/ambulatory operations with strong relationship building and communication skills. Must possess understanding of the clinical and operational processes required to care for patients in a complex medical practice and integrated health system setting. The qualified candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Health Care, Business Administration, or related field. Master’s degree, clinical background, and certification/fellowship in a nationally recognized healthcare association is preferred. Minimum of five years’ experience within healthcare management in an ambulatory physician practice setting.

Valley Verde Medical Center

From a small outpatient clinic in 1939, Verde Valley Medical Center (VVMC) in Cottonwood has grown into a full-service, 99-bed, not-for-profit hospital serving North Central Arizona. Four locations serve the Verde Valley and surrounding communities: Cottonwood campus, Sedona campus, Camp Verde Health Center, and Village of Oak Creek Health Center. More than 800 professional and support staff are employed at VVMC. The Medical Staff is comprised of over 100 physicians representing 26* medical specialties. VVMC is licensed by the state of Arizona and certified by Medicare. VVMC is part of Northern Arizona Healthcare, which also serves patients through Flagstaff Medical Center, Winslow Memorial Hospital, and Northern Arizona Homecare and Hospice.
