The UCC has a mission, called Mission 1 during November 1 -11, 2011. Their goal is: 1 Million Items of Healthy Food and other

household item for local food banks and outreach services.

$111,111 for Neighbors in Need Offering 11,111 letters to Congress through BFW’s 2011

Offering of Letters campaignOur Goal at Northeast United Church of Christ is to help UCC reach their Goals by:1. Bring in 111 Items of Healthy Food and other

household item for our local food banks before November 11, 2011

2. Raise $111 for Neighbors in Need Offering between October 23 and November 11, 2011.

3. 11 letters to Congress through BFW’s 2011 Offering of Letters campaign on October 2. 2011 to be mailed by November 11, 2011. HELP US REACH OUR GOALS AND FIGHT HUNGER!

GOAL 1BETHANY FOOD PANTRY SUNDAY

NOVEMBER 6TH

Our Goal is to Bring in 111 items of Nonperishable food items in November!BRING A CAN OF FOOD TO CHURCH!

Support Our Local Food PantryWhile there are many people in Lincoln suffering from hunger, the Fall and Winter months are often especially hard. In the past, Northeast UCC was committed to sending a monthly donation of food to the Bethany Food Pantry, located at Bethany Christian Church. This outreach program has not has a very high profile at our Church for the past few years, a situation we would like to correct.

Please mark on your calendars and your hearts the first Sunday of every month as “Food Pantry Sunday”. Bring your food donations to the Church on that Sunday if you can, or bring them any time and place in the bin marked “Food Pantry”. We will make sure that deliveries to Bethany Christian Church occur on a regular basis. Note that this outreach program is different from the “Backpack Program”, which has its own bin for donations.

A shopping list for the Food Pantry is included in this newsletter and has been posted at the Church. Make extra copies to hang on your fridge and to carry in your purses/wallets so that you can make an extra purchase for the Pantry during your regular trips to the grocery store.

Thank you for helping to give food security to Lincoln families!

GOAL 2NEIGHBORS IN NEED (NIN) is a special mission offering of the UCC that supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States.  One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM).

Two-thirds of the offering is used by the UCC's Justice and Witness Ministries (JWM) to support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects.

This 5 for 5 offering will be received starting October 23 through November 11 at Northeast

United Church of Christ. Our Goal this year is $111 from Northeast United Church of Christ going

towards the UCC’s goal or $111,111.GOAL 3

BREAD FOR THE WORLD

Sample LetterYour Name and AddressDateDear Sen. _______________, or Dear Rep._______________,I’m asking you to reform the way the United States delivers foreign assistance so it will help millions of people in poor countries move out of hunger and poverty. Streamlined and more efficient U.S. foreign aid programs will ensure that our tax dollars are used effectively and that the aid we give is what local people in poor countries such as Haiti and Liberia really need.

By focusing our aid dollars on moving people out of poverty, we help foster economic growth and opportunity. Fewer people struggling with poverty and stronger, growing economies in developing countries contribute to our own national security as well.

This is why I am asking you to support reforms in the ways we deliver and administer U.S foreign aid. Thank you.

Sincerely,Your Name

CROP WALK November 6

CROP Walk is an ecumenical walk that helps to raise money for Church World Service. Church World Service aims to reduce poverty and hunger. A percentage of monies raised from the CROP Walk remain in the community to empower people and feed those in need. Northeast UCC will walk on Sunday, November 6th, following Sunday morning worship. Please see Pastor Melissa to pick up a packet and recruit sponsors. We want to show Church World Service that we are mighty and powerful walkers for a world that is reaching for justice and food equity. Come join the walk.

THANKSGIVING OFFERING

The Thanksgiving Offering will be taken on November 20, 2011 during worship. This year’s offering will go towards Bread for the World. In our continued efforts to end hunger in the world, we are asking you to consider doing two things on November 20th:

1. Give a monetary donation with your regular offering. Please mark it for Bread for the World or BFW.

2. Write a letter to your Representative/ Senator. (See Sample letters in this

HELP OUR HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH TO ATTEND THIS GREAT EVENT!

Our high school youth at Northeast United Church of Christ are planning to attend the National Youth Event 2012. In the months ahead they will be doing several fundraisers to raise the money to take them there.

The goal is $3,000 for 3 youth and 1-2 adults to attend. This covers: registration, lodging, transportation and meals. Help support our high school youth in their fundraising for the National Youth Event! (Donations are being accepted by marking on your giving slip – NUCC National Youth Event)

Any youth ages 13-18 by July 1 of 2012 who wish to go or learn more about the National Youth Event, please contact Scott Pigsley at 402-432-3791 or [email protected].

Where can I find more information? We encourage you to save the date and check www.ucc.org/nye  for updates on NYE 2012.  We will soon be adding video about NYE to this site, so you can watch it and share it with friends, family and your youth group! You can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook for updates!

The National Youth Event, held every four years, provides an opportunity for over 3000 youth (ages 13 to 18) to gather for worship, workshops, faith, fun and fellowship. It is planned by the collaborative efforts of national staff and an NYE Planning Committee comprised of a diverse group of UCC youth and young adults.
