NSAC Item V.C. March 29, 2017 TO: Cor Wilson, Executive Director FROM: Terri Schultz, Technical Services Manager Pat Cook, Senior Technician and Facilities Coordinator

SUBJECT February-March 2017 Report Technical Operations • Tim Domke and Mary Guy organized a panel discussion with five local freelancers. This was open to

volunteers, producers, staff and anyone else who may be interested. The forum was informative, fun and provided a good networking opportunity for everyone.

• Following the last board meeting, we were finally able to finish processing the 2016 surplus

equipment. Left over equipment has been donated to the Century College Foundation on March 2. • The technical staff has completed remodeling the tech shop that used to house two full time staff

members and will now house the two part time staff and Don Swenson. Rearranging has allowed all three people now in that area to be comfortable, have space and still have some privacy.

• We are working with Rich Chlebecek, a member of the Friends of the Oval organization, on items at

the Roseville Skating Center. After a meeting with Terri and Pat, Jarame and Pat visited with him at the OVAL and are working on updating the cameras over the nets and the clock camera, as well as consulting on where to put additional cameras that can be seen on the web.

• Pat is planning his NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) trip and working on setting up

meetings with vendors. One focus will be equipment for the cities, since seven still need upgrades. • Mary Guy, with Jordan’s help, processed, named and tagged new equipment for the youth media

department purchased with his most recent grant. • Don Swenson’s monthly report is included. IT and I-Net Operations • We are currently exploring the options of an Apple TV app. They have made it easier to have a

channel using a mobile app. • The Apple version of the mobile (cell phone) app has received final approval in the app store. Lori

and our Rasmussen intern William are now doing the final revisions, so there will be at least one or two updates, but it is currently available in the store. The Android app should not take as long as the versions are becoming quite similar. William will no longer be able to intern, as he will be a stay at home father after the birth of his second child.

• We have been holding off on our machine room update until Pat returns from NAB since he will be

looking at all the equipment we plan to replace and speaking to vendors. We may be able to find less expensive alternatives. We are also waiting for confirmation of our tax-exempt status.

• A monthly city meeting web stream report is included with this report. City and School Assistance • Pat has met with Vanessa Van Alstine a number of times to discuss Mounds View’s upgrade plans.

Page 18: NORTH SUBURBAN ACCESS CORPORATION April … SUBURBAN ACCESS CORPORATION April 6, 2017 5 ... Sports & Misc. Programing – 1 ... • We have been holding off on our machine …

Many of the items she’s interested in for Mounds View are similar to what the other cities can use. Trucks • There were 21 truck shoots in February, 15 live, and 0 cancelations. • There were 7 truck shoots in March, 1 live, and 0 cancelations. • Mary has become more comfortable with maintaining the truck schedule, and her communication

with the truck techs is going well. • The new generator has been installed in the white truck. The railing on the roof has been repaired

and being readied for spring sports. • Jarame is doing an excellent job taking care of general maintenance on the vehicles and scheduling

repairs as needed. • Our new Truck Technician, Trevor Schwarze. is doing well and doing truck shoots with both trucks. • There was truck training for Northwestern University in February.

NSAC/CTV North Suburbs STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE

Minutes March 30, 2017

 1.   Call to Order

Chair Hal Grey called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. at the NSAC offices.  The following persons were in attendance:  Craig Wilson, Arden Hills; Susan Majerus, Falcon Heights; Gina Bauman, New Brighton; Dan Roe, Roseville; Hal Gray, St. Anthony; Coralie Wilson, Executive Director; Tim Domke, Production & Outreach Manager; Terri Schultz, Technical Services Manager; David Rosenbloom, Business Manager; Pat Cook, Senior Technical & Facility Coordinator; Brian Brady, community producer and volunteer.

 2.  Accept Agenda

Mr.  Roe moved, seconded by Ms. Bauman, to accept the agenda.  Motion approved unanimously.

3.  Accept Minutes of the March 9, 2017, Meeting Ms.  Wilson moved to accept the minutes of the March 9, 2017, meeting, seconded by Ms. Bauman.  Motion approved unanimously.

 4.  Discussion of Future Funding

Ms. Wilson reviewed the franchise fee report for 2015‐2016 and the two budget scenarios   prepared by staff ‐‐ one with just fixed/basic expenses and one that preserves the status quo but with less operational and no capital expenses.   She noted that the former resulted in a net balance of $589,000, while the second resulted in a deficit of $218,325 which she suggested could be closed with a transfer from reserves.  She noted that transferring from reserves is not a long‐term solution, but would provide some transition until additional funding sources could be secured.    In response to questions about use of the $589,000 balance in the “bare bones” budget, Ms. Wilson said the staff was seeking guidance from the committee on the focus of the organization since this would bear on how the funds were allocated.  After some discussion, staff was directed to prepare two budget scenarios, one for government only and one for education/community.

5.  Set Next Meeting/Meeting Schedule The Committee Members decided to have a work session with the full Board of Directors at 5:30 p.m. on April 6, 2017.
