Public Involvement / Citizen Feedback • Public involvement has been an important element of the process

o The Penn Daw Special Study Task Force helped identify community issues and evaluate changes to the Comprehensive Plan from 2010-2012

o Stakeholder meetings were held in early 2013 to discuss different transportation design alternatives

o May 2013 Community Meeting provided an opportunity for feedback as alternative concepts were developed

o June 2014 Community Meeting, followed by online voting, resulted in narrowing down the concepts (Options 8C & 8D selected for further analysis)

o December 2014 Community Meeting highlighted the operational functionality of Options 8C and 8D

o Final public comment period, September 15, 2015 to November 15, 2015http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/fcdot/nkingshwy.htm

Additional Traffic Signal at School Street Under Options 8C & 8D

• Questions raised at prior meetings about potential for adding a traffic signal at North Kings Highway and School Street

• VDOT will not allow a traffic signal at North Kings Highway and School Street due to close proximity to adjacent signals

• Traffic signal at School Street under build options would likely worsen traffic operations along North Kings Highway, leading to further delay and congestion (travel times would presumably increase)

• Storage needed for heavy southbound left turning movement at Shields Avenue Intersection (dual lefts)
