Paschall recorded his eighth straight 100-yard game this season ... He has rushed 164 � mes for 1,128 yards (6.9 ypc) and nine TDs in eight games, and has also caught 11 passes for 183 yards ... Last Time...#24 NDSU 34, Indiana State 7November 1, 2008 FARGO, N.D.—-Nick Mertens threw two touchdown passes and North Dakota State overcame a sluggish start to beat Indiana State 34-7 on Nov. 1, before a crowd of 16,211 in the Fargodome to extend the Sycamores’ losing streak to 23 games. The game was � ed 7-7 a� er one quarter, but it was all NDSU a� er that. The Bison limited the Sycamores to 19 yards of off ense in the second half. Mertens threw for 82 yards for NDSU, which has won back-to-back games for the fi rst � me since the fi rst two weeks of the season. Mertens tossed a 15-yard TD pass to Alex Belquist in the fi rst half and a 4-yarder to Tyler Jangula early in the fourth quarter. It was the fi rst collegiate touchdown recep� on for Belquist. NDSU’s off ense struggled in the fi rst half before scoring twice in the last 1:20 of the second quarter to go up 20-7. The scoring plays were set up by a Cyrus Lemon intercep� on and John Richardson fumble recovery. The Sycamores outgained the Bison 124-117 in the fi rst two quarters. Tyler Roehl ran 20 � mes for 102 yards, including a 5-yard TD run in the fi rst quarter. Roehl rushed for over 100 yards for the fi � h � me this season and 11th � me in his career. The Bison also received a 5-yard TD run on a Jordan Schultenover reverse in the third quarter. The Sycamores � ed it on a 19-yard run by Antoine Brown with 4:28 remaining in the fi rst quarter. Brown led the Sycamores with 70 yards on 11 carries. Indiana State, which was outgained 247-143, ran for 103 yards -- 98 which came in the opening half. North Dakota State’s defense was led by Joe Lardi-nois career-high 11 tackles including three tackles for loss. Indiana State hasn’t won a conference road game since 2002. Quinton Sco� led the Sycamores with a game-high 16 tackles., while CJ Cook added eight tack-les and three pass breakups. It was the 35th Harvest Bowl and the Bison im-proved to 31-1-2 in the event.

GAME ONEIowa State 34, NDSU 17 September 3, 2009 AMES, Iowa—Austen Arnaud threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns, both to Marquis Hamilton, and Iowa State beat North Dakota State 34-17 before 48,831 spec-tators at Jack Trice Stadium on Sept. 3. It was the third largest crowd to see a NDSU road football game. North Dakota State got as close as 24-17 midway through the third quarter before Iowa State pulled away. Grant Mahoney hit a career-long 50-yard fi eld goal and Arnaud found Hamilton for a 42-yard touchdown pass with 9:58 le� to make it 34-17. Pat Paschall rushed for a career-high 146 yards and a touchdown for North Dakota State, an FCS pro-gram that fell to 3-3 against FBS opponents since 2006. Preston Evans led the NDSU defense with a career-high 11 tackles. Iowa State looked as though it might put away the pesky Bison early in the third quarter. Hamilton raced through the North Dakota State secondary for a 39-yard TD recep� on off a quick slant route, pu� ng the Cyclones ahead 24-10. The Bison answered in impressive fashion, driving 73 yards in 10 plays as Nick Mertens found Ma� Veldman for a 15-yard TD pass to cut it to 24-17. But that was it for the NDSU’s off ense, which averaged 6 yards per play. Mertens was 15 of 27 passing for 178 yards, with one touchdown and one intercep� on. Alexander Robinson added 83 yards rushing and a touchdown for Iowa State, who snapped a 10-game losing streak. The Cyclones gained 442 yards of total off ense, as Arnaud rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown.

GAME TWOSam Houston State 48, NDSU 45 September 12, 2009 HUNTSVILLE, Texas—Freshman Miguel Antonio kicked a 24-yard fi eld goal with 26 seconds remaining to give Sam Houston State a 48-45 non-conference victory Sept. 12 over North Dakota State before a crowd of 6,048 at Bower Stadium. NDSU lost two games to start the season for the fi rst � me since 1981 when Bison dropped road games at Northern Michigan and Northern Arizona. Sam Houston drove 72 yards in 10 plays for the game-winning score. Blake Joseph com-pleted 24 of 36 passes for 482 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bearkats. Sam Houston fi nished with 620 yards on 74 plays as the two teams combined for 1,039 yards of total off ense. Sam Houston State wide receiver Jason Mad-kins caught an eye-opening six passes for 239 yards and one TD. James Aston had touchdown runs of 1 and 2 yards and caught an 18-yard TD pass from Joseph. Nick Mertens com-pleted 14 of 26 passes to eight diff erent receivers for 231 yards and � ed a career-high with three touchdown passes for the Bison. Garre� Bruhn, Titus Mack and Ma� Voigtlander each caught a TD pass, while Mertens also ran for a pair of TDs and two-point conversion. Pat Paschall ran 20 � mes for 176 yards and a touchdown. Paschall also caught a pair of passes for 34 yards. He topped his career-high for the second straight week and has six career 100-yard eff orts. Bison linebacker Ma� Anderson kept busy with career-high 12 tackles including seven solos. Defensive end Coulter Boyer also contributed a career-high eight tackles.

GAME THREENDSU 59, Wagner College 28September 19, 2009 FARGO, N.D.—Pat Paschall rushed for 167 yards and two touchdowns to lead North Dakota State to a 59-28 victory over Wagner College before a Tree Bowls crowd of 18,128 in the Fargodome on Sept. 19. NDSU avoided its fi rst 0-3 start since 1962. Paschall, the na� on’s top rusher in the Football Championship Subdivision, scored on a 91-yard run in the second quarter, which included a spinning leap over a Wagner defensive player. It was the longest run from scrimmage in NDSU history, breaking by one yard a record set by Cy Peschel in 1928. Paschall recorded his third straight 100-yard game to start the season and the seventh 100-yard eff ort of his career. The 59 points are the most scored by NDSU since 2006 when the Bison defeated Concordia-St. Paul 66-7 in the season opener. Nick Mertens complet-ed 12 of 21 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown for the Bison. Mertens also ran for two TDs. D.J. McNorton scored twice for NDSU, which rolled up 531 total yards. McNorton rushed eight � mes for 66 yards and caught two passes for 43 yards. Dominique Williams ran for 131 yards and a touchdown for the Seahawks. Wagner held a 38:18 to 21:42 edge in � me of posses-sion as the Bison scored three TDs in less than a minute and six touchdowns in less than 1:45. NDSU placekicker Shawn Bibeau connected on a career long 52 yard fi eld goal with 2:49 le� in the third quarter. Bibeau’s previous best was a 51-yard eff ort at West-ern Illinois in 2007. Linebacker Preston Evans led the Bison defense with 10 tackles. NDSU forced four fi rst half fumbles including one recovered by Brandon Jemison. Isaac Kolstad recorded his fi rst collegiate intercep� on. It was the 50th career win for North Dakota State head coach Craig Bohl. NDSU improved to 16-3 in the Trees Bowl.

Dieker connected with Jeff Evans on a 61-yard pass to open the scoring, then fi nished it with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Joe Allaria midway through the fourth quarter. Dieker was 10 of 23 for 186 yards for the Salukis (2-1, 1-0). Southern’s Deji Karim rushed for 127 yards on 23 carries, including a 23-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Kyle Dougherty added a fi eld goal. D.J. McNorton scored on a 1-yard run for North Dakota State (1-3, 0-1), and Gerry Ebel scored the other touchdown on a blocked fi eld-goal return. GAME FIVEIllinois State 27, NDSU 24October 3, 2009 FARGO, N.D.—Eyad Salem had 14 catches for 172 yards and Ma� Brown complet-ed 30 of 42 passes for 320 yards to lead Illinois State to a 27-24 victory Saturday, Oct. 3. over North Dakota State before a homecoming crowd of 18,608 in the Fargodome. A 2-yard touchdown run by Illinois State’s Geno Blow with 1:24 remaining sent North Dakota State to its fi rst 1-4 start since 2002. North Dakota State took a 24-20 lead on true freshman Sam Ojuri’s fi rst college touchdown, a 14-yard run with 4:53 le� . But the Redbirds (2-3, 1-1) answered with an 8-play, 68-yard drive. Pat Paschall had 21 carries for 115 yards for NDSU. It was Paschall’s fi � h 100-yard rushing eff ort this season and the ninth of his career. He has rushed 100 � mes for 754 yards and fi ve TDs this season. Nick Mertens complet-ed 11 of 21 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown. His 95-yard TD pass to Gary Williams was the longest in NDSU history. The previous long was 88 yards from Kevin Feeney to Kelly Artz against Northern Colorado in 1995. Brown threw two TD passes, including one to Salem, who � ed a school record with the career-high 14 recep� ons. GAME SIX#3/4 Northern Iowa 42, NDSU 27October 10, 2009 Fargo, N.D.—Pat Grace shook off an injury and threw three touchdown passes, leading No. 3/4-ranked Northern Iowa past North Dakota State 42-27 in a Missouri Valley Football Conference game played Oct. 10 before a crowd of 16,418 in the Fargo-dome. Grace le� the game briefl y late in the third quarter a� er losing a fumble while being sacked. He returned to throw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, a 39-yard strike to Maurice Turner and a 16-yarder to Schuy-ler Oordt. Grace fi nished 14 of 21 for 229 yards for the Panthers. D.J. Hord had six catches for 105 yards and a touchdown for the Pan-thers. Derrick Law ran for 121 yards on eight carries. Pat Paschall rushed for 115 yards for NDSU. It was his sixth straight 100-yard game and the 10th of his career. North Dakota State rolled up 514 total yards against a UNI defense that entered the game ranked second in the na� on in yards allowed. Nick Mertens completed 29 of 44 passes for 308 yards -- all career-highs. Warren Holloway made a career best eight recep� ons for 134 yards. The teams combined for 27 penal� es totaling 272 yards. Both teams blocked a punt for TDs in the second quarter three minutes apart. Hol-loway blocked a UNI punt that Daniel Eaves returned 20 yards for a touchdown with 13:29 le� . GAME SEVEN#14 South Dakota State 28, NDSU 13October 17, 2009 BROOKINGS, S.D.—Kyle Mine� rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns, and Derek Domino returned one of his two intercep� ons for a touchdown Saturday, Oct. 17, as No. 14-ranked South Dakota State beat North Dakota State 28-13 before 14,188 at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium. It was Mine� ’s 11th career 100-yard game. His fi nal touchdown came in a drive in which the winning Jackrabbits (5-1, 4-0) con-verted on a fourth-down play at the North Dakota State 28-yard line. Mine� has scored in 11 straight games for SDSU. Quarterback Nick Mertens passed for two touchdowns and 130 yards for North Dakota State (1-6, 0-4). D.J. McNorton fi nished with 57 yards rushing, 27 yards receiv-ing including a 22-yard TD catch on the opening drive, and 18 yards on punt returns. Mertens other TD pass went to Gary Williams from 20 yards out with 59 seconds le� before hal� ime. However, the Bison were held to only 51 yards of total off ense in the second half by the South Dakota State defense. Domino and teammate Chris Johnson each fi nished with 12 tackles. Domino’s 16-yard intercep� on return for a score broke a 7-7 � e and put SDSU ahead for good late in the fi rst quarter. Linebacker Preston Evans recorded a game-high 13 tackles and a sack for NDSU. It was Evans’ third double-fi gure tackle eff ort of the season. Defensive tackle Ma� hew Gratzek made a career-high nine tackles including fi ve solos and 2.5 tackles for loss, while free safety Daniel Eaves had a career-high nine tackles including six solos. Sophomore linebacker Alex Yaggie also blocked a punt in the third quarter. It was NDSU’s second blocked punt of the season. Junior � ght end Landon Smith also recov-ered a fumbled punt for the Bison.

GAME EIGHTMissouri State 21, NDSU 17Oct. 24, 2009 FARGO, N.D.--Mikael Cooper-Falls rushed for 105 yards including a 57-yard TD run to open the third quarter to lead Missouri State to a 21-17 victory over North Dakota State before a crowd of 15,122 in a Missouri Valley Football Conference game and the 36th annual Harvest Bowl at the Fargodome on Saturday, Oct. 24. The Bison are off to their worst start since 1962, when they fi nished 0-10 and have lost fi ve straight games. NDSU dropped to 31-2-2 in the Harvest Bowl and lost for the fi rst � me since Northern Colorado posted a 29-7 win in 2002. Pat Paschall ran for 148 yards and a touchdown for the Bison, but lost a fumble at the Missouri State 1-yard line late in the game. NDSU was moving the ball inside Bears’ territory a� er War-ren Holloway blocked his second punt of the season and third of his career. However, the Bison closed the defi cit to 21-17 with 3:01 le� on Ryan Jas-tram’s 35 yard fi eld goal. NDSU’s defense turned in another three-and-out, but Missouri State held it’s ground in the game’s fi nal two minutes. Paschall went over 100 yards rushing for the seventh game this season and for the 11th � me in his career. He went over 1,000 yards in the third quarter. He has 1,017 yards on 145 carries this season and also moved to No. 14 on NDSU’s all-� me list with 2,148 yards. Redshirt freshman Jose Mohler completed 9 of 21 passes for 126 yards including a 48-yard strike to Gary Williams in the second quarter set up Paschall’s two-yard TD run. Mohler connected on a 21-yard scoring pass to Lee Vandal for NDSU’s fi rst touch-down. The Bears (5-3, 3-2 Valley Football) rushed for a season-high 225 yards and held a 33:07 to 26:53 edge in � me of possession to record their third league road win of the season. Cody Kirby completed 9 of 12 passes for 104 yards and a TD for Missouri State. Kirby also ran for a 13-yard touchdown in the fi rst quarter. Skylar Smith led MSU with 11 tackles, while Antoine Wilkinson fi nished with 10 tackles and a pair of pass breakups. Luther Roweton blocked a punt in the fi rst quarter to set up the Bears fi rst score. North Dakota State’s defense was led by Eddie Beson ‘s game-high 12 tackles including eight solos and a forced fumble, while freshman Brandon Jemison recorded 10. GAME NINENDSU 14, Western Illinois 7October 31, 2009 MACOMB, Ill.—Pat Paschall scored on a 24-yard run with 3:10 le� and the defense came up with seven sacks and four turnovers to lead North Dakota State to a 14-7 victory over Western Illinois in a Missouri Valley Football Conference game played at Hanson Field on Oct. 31. North Dakota State snapped a fi ve-game losing streak with the win, the program’s longest since 1975. The touchdown, Paschall’s second of the game, came a� er Western Illinois’ Lito Senatus had caught a 9-yard pass from Wil Lunt to � e the game with 11:13 to go. Paschall also scored on a 17-yard run in the fi rst quarter that was set up by Shamen Washington’s 65-yard return of the opening kickoff . Paschall rushed 19 � mes for 111 yards for North Dakota State. He went over 100 yards for the eighth � me this season and for the 12th � me in his career. Paschall also caught three passes for 44 yards. Dre Gibbs led the Leathernecks with 109 yards on 24 carries. Linebacker Buddy Dudczak had a game-high 13 tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss. Jose Mohler was 7 of 15 for 90 yards and rushed eight � mes for 42 yards the Bison. Lunt went 11 of 19 for 113 yards and an intercep� on in the end zone that killed a fi rst-quarter drive. Western Illinois lost three fumbles, while North Dakota State lost two in wet, muddy condi� ons. Defensive end Coulter Boyer had three sacks for the Bison, while defensive end Garre� Johnson had two and nose guard Ma� Phillips added 1.5 sacks. Defensive tackle Ma� hew Gratzek recovered a pair of fumbles. NDSU held the Leathernecks to 206 yards of total off ense.
