Why were changes made to the private Why were changes made to the private applicator regulations?applicator regulations?

EPA had been encouraging N.C. to update its standards for the past several years.

• N.C. was one of only 7 states not requiring a written exam for certification.

• It is important that Private Applicators keep informed and up-to-date on all pesticide related issues.

• New Private Applicators will now be required to pass a written examination.

• All Private Applicators will now be required to obtain 2 hours of “specialty training”.

What has stayed the same?What has stayed the same?Private Applicators who currently hold valid certification

will not be required to pass a written exam.

Private Applicators will still be required to attend the mandatory recertification class (safety training) at their local CES every 3 years.

Private Applicators who fail to renew their cards by their recertification deadline (Sept. 30 of the third year of their certification period) will be required to pass a written exam to obtain a new card.

Your writing must be legible.

Keep your own records of the classes you attend.

NCDA & CS will mail transcripts once a year to all pesticide applicators listing classes attended and credits earned.

After you receive your transcript, call the Pesticide Section (919-733-3556) ASAP to correct any discrepancy with your record.
