A. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT 1. BoMed Calendar

Ms. Skinner reminded the Board that the next meeting will be 6/24/15.

2. BoMed Stats

Ms. Skinner provided the following data: 162 applications received in May 54 training licenses received in May



657 licenses issued to date in this Fiscal Year 436 Medical Training Licenses/Registrations renewed since the March Match. The Board Chair also informed the public that the Senior Deputy Director is working on filling the vacant Executive Director position, and should have it posted in about a month.

3. FYI Articles: a) Letter from United Physicians and Surgeons of

America.

B. BOARD ATTORNEY’S REPORT

The Board Attorney gave the following additional stats: There are currently 12,264 active licensees under the purview of the Board. Although not mentioned, this number is made up of the following: 162 Acupunturists 39 Anesethesiologist Assistants 1,248 Medical Training Licenses IA 397 Medical Training Licenses IB 32 Medical Training License II 102 Medical Training Registrants 9,227 MDs 35 Naturopathic Physicians 207 Dos 605 Physician Assistants 1 Polysomnographic Technician 78 Polysomnographic Technologists 17 Polysomnographic Trainees 114 Surgical assistants. Discipline: 2 complaints received in May



No orders issued or hearings held. The Board attorney spoke briefly about his presentation to the physicians and medical residents at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. The Board attorney also indicated that there might be an opportunity to work with St. Elizabeth’s Hospital to utilize its resources in forensic psychiatry for fitness to practice evaluations.

PRESENTATION:

ANESTHESIOLOGIST ASSISTANT REGULATIONS

Presentation by Shane Angus, Program Director for Case Western

University’s Anesthesiology program, and a member of the DC

Board of Medicine’s AA Taskforce, to advocate for a change in the

supervising Anesthesiologist to Assistant ratio.

Mr. Angus presented his request to the Board that the ratio of

supervising anesthesiologist to assistant be changed from 1:3

to 1:4, in keeping with the federal allowance for

reimbursement.

The Board asked if they have support from any local program

Chairs, and Mr. Angus stated they do have support from Dr.

Parker at MedStar/WHC, Dr. Kaplan at CNMC, and Dr. Coev of

Providence Hospital.

The Board informed him they would discuss further and

proceed as appropriate.
