March 20. The day marks the springequinox, when the sun shines directlyon the Earth’s equator, and the length ofnight and day are nearly equal.

Charleston’s St. Patrick’s DayThe weather is getting warm and

spring is officially here. It’s the besttime of the year to get out and seewhat Charleston has to offer,especially before the height of thesummer tourist season. Of course, nospring is complete without its share ofSt. Patrick’s Day festivities! And it’s nodifferent in Charleston. TommyCondon’s is a well-known Irish puband restaurant where everyone canbe Irish for a day on good ‘ol St.Paddy’s Day! There is a St. Patrick’sDay Parade that is not to be missedwith celebrations that culminate in theraising of the Irish Flag over City Hall.

Walk for WaterWater Mission is a non-profit born

and raised in Charleston, SC. To date,Water Mission has helped some 3million people in over 52 counties.They do this by using innovativetechnology and engineering expertiseto provide access to safe water bybuilding and implementing safe water,sanitation and hygiene (WASH)solutions for people in developingcountries and disaster areas. TheWalk for Water is their largestfundraising event of the year and theyare looking forward to their biggestone yet!

Last year, they had almost 5,000walkers from the Charleston tri-countyarea. This year, they are expectingbetween 7,000 - 8,000. The event isan excellent opportunity to get out andenjoy the nice weather and walk for agood cause.

Madness grips much of the countrythis time of year as teams begin playin the annual NCAA men’s basketballtournament. A total of 68 Division Iteams are shooting for thechampionship title. The Final Fourwill tip off April 2–4 in Houston.

Breezeway andBalcony Reminder

Towels and/or other items are notto be draped in breezeways orbalconies to dry. For APPEARANCEREASONS, BREEZEWAYS ARENOT TO BE USED AS STORAGEAREAS. Residents are to refrain fromattaching anything in their breezeway.The only permissible items to be lefton patios, balconies, or in breezewayswhere construction styles permit arebeautification items and appropriateoutdoor items. The determination ofwhether an item is acceptable or notwill be in the sole judgment ofManagement.

GRILLING is not permitted on anybalcony or patio or within anybreezeway or corridor. To utilize anapproved grill, the grill must be placedat least ten feet from any structure.Propane barbeque grills, with thepropane tank attached, are notpermitted within the community at all.Propane tanks are specificallyprohibited from being stored in anyportion of the community. The onlybarbeque grills that are permitted arecharcoal grills. If an approved grill isstored on a balcony or patio, it mustnot be placed between the patio doorand the railing—effectively blockingegress should someone need to utilizethe balcony or patio as an emergencyexit.

These policies are in keeping withstate fire regulations. If a resident isfound to be in violation of thesepolicies, their tenancy may beterminated. Additionally, if the firedepartment comes out to the propertyand discovers a violation of theseregulations and issues a citation andfine, the resident will be responsible topay that fine. Failure to pay that fine infull within the requisite period willresult in termination of tenancy.

Update Your Wardrobefor Spring

When March begins, we knowspring is just around the corner. Evenif there is still a foot of snow outside,we start thinking about shorts andsandals. If you’re ready to refresh yourwardrobe, keep the following tipsin mind.

First, go through your closet andtake stock of what you already have.Note what you haven’t worn in a whileand figure out why so you can avoidthe same purchasing mistakes in the

future. Then sell or donate whateveryou don’t wear or don’t love.

Next, spend some time flippingthrough current fashion magazines,catalogs and websites to see what willbe popular this season. Pay attentionto styles you know will flatter you.

Make a list of items you want topurchase that will complement andupdate the clothes you already have.You might have the basics but wouldlike to add a splash of color and stylewith a jacket, scarf or handbag. Onthe other hand, you might decide thata couple of classic blouses will giveyour wardrobe more versatility.

Stick to the list when you areshopping so you’re not tempted bycostly impulse purchases. As youconsider pieces, use a mentalchecklist to make sure the new itemwill go with at least three things inyour current wardrobe.

The Red PlanetThe month of March was named

for Mars, the Roman god of war whowas also regarded as a guardianof agriculture.

The fourth planet from the sun isalso named after Mars. Because of itscolor, Mars is sometimes referred toas the red planet.

Mars is a terrestrial planet with athin atmosphere. It has surfacefeatures reminiscent of boththe impact craters on the moon andthe volcanoes, deserts and polar icecaps of Earth.

In 2015, NASA announced thepresence of flowing salt water on theMartian surface.

Mars has two natural moons,Phobos and Deimos. Although noone knows how they formed, theymight be asteroids snared by theplanet’s gravity.

Humans have long been fascinated

by the red planet, and tales ofMartians have been around forhundreds of years. In an effort to learnmore about our celestial neighbor,there have been many missionsto Mars.

The first spacecraft to visit Marswas Mariner 4 in 1965. In 2004, theMars rovers Spirit and Opportunitylanded on Mars and sent backmassive amounts of geologic data andimages. The rover Curiosity landedin 2012.
