After last month’s meeting with
Minister of Finance Charles
Sousa, the President commented
that the Chamber had sent in a
formal submission for the Pro-
vincial Pre-budget Consulta-
tions. To view the submission,
President Shogren also had the
opportunity to comment on the
Federal Budget and the media
release can be viewed here.
Dean Decaire of BDO Canada
LLP presented the Chamber’s
audited statements for fiscal
2013; these statements were
subsequently approved by the
board by resolution at the
February board meeting.
Treasurer Charles Elliott also
presented the 2014 Chamber
budget for approval with
expenditures of $390,000 and
a projected surplus of $659.
The budget was approved via
resolution for 2014.
President Shogren was pleased
to see that Premier Wynne dur-
ing her visit to North Bay took
the opportunity to meet with
ONTC management and unions
and provided the go ahead for
the groups to provide the com-
mittee a plan to move forward.
President Shogren is looking
forward to hearing positive news
from this collaboration.
Condolences were offered to the
families of Tom “Timber”
Graham and Anne Martyn; both
were former directors of the
Chamber. President Shogren
also offered condolences to the
family of Joan Demarco, long-
time business owner with her
husband Tony of Demarco’s
Confectionery.
VP Jake Lacourse presented a
timely partnership that has been
formed between the Chamber,
HOST (Hospitality Organization
Strengthening Tourism) and the
City of North Bay recreation
department that has now hired
Larry Tougas, a well-known
sports ambassador who’s role is
to reach out to sporting events
that could be hosted in our area.
Providing bids to future
opportunities and fill a calendar
of potential events and confer-
ences during off-peak times to
promote our facilities and the
community.
The board also approved a
resolution to provide a letter
of support to a private multi-
use recreation facility called
Summer365 that is looking at
locating a 35,000 sq. ft. indoor
sports facility here in our area.
Summer365 is designed to allow
athletes of summer sports the
opportunity train and play the
sport they love all year round.
Summer365 already has a loca-
tion in Newmarket and they are
asking for letters of intent from
sports groups and organizations
in the region to see if it is a
viable option to open a facility
here.
The membership committee has
been speaking with the Mattawa
Bonfield Chamber of Commerce
to see how we can partner with
them this year to assist them in
hosting events and having a
larger voice for business. The
Mattawa Chamber is
volunteer led and would
benefit from having the
support of the North Bay
& District Chamber of
Commerce. We look
forward to this potential
partnership this year.

Attention North Bay Service Clubs My name is J-D Robinson and I am the president of the
North Bay Kinsmen club. I am writing to extend an
invitation to our general meeting on March 20, in which we
have invited Mayor Al MacDonald to discuss service clubs
in North Bay and his local initiatives. Our meeting will take
place at the North Bay Legion at 6:30pm, and we anticipate
that it will last approximately 1.5 hours.
We welcome any interested members from your club to
attend this meeting so that they can speak with the mayor.
We also hope that, by welcoming members from other local
service clubs, we may explore the possibility of forming
mutually beneficial partnerships that will benefit the
community. At the very least, we look forward to making
some new friends!
If you are interested in attending the meeting, please RSVP
by Clicking Here by March 6 so that we can have the
necessary seating available. We look forward to seeing
everyone who can attend.
Have a great day,
J-D Robinson President, North Bay
