Dont look at change as
a set of obstacles rather see
consider it as a variety of
opportunities. With changecomes new ideas and innova-
tion. Improvements can be
made to the old way of
doing things. Its uncomfort-
able at first. However the
initial discomfort will pass
and the possibility to rise as a
bright, shiny star will fuel the
change. Can you see it? Are
you there too? A bright, shiny
star!
The new Chamber Presi-dent, whoever he or she may
be, will be a champion for
business in our community.
They will represent us on a
local, state and federal level.
They will be the cheerleader
for our community and strive
to enrich our quality of life.
It is not about filling the
role it is about having the
right person with the right
set of skills. The Chambersvision statement remains the
same and in the absence of a
formal leader, it is our duty
and responsibility to set the
example and carry forward a
Business Friendly mindset.
With that in mind, let me
challenge you to show up for
Chamber events, participate in
community engagements, and
think of your business neigh-
bor when referring a friendsomewhere. The acronym
T.E.A.M. applies now more
than ever Together Every-
one Achieves More.
The Greater North Augusta
Chamber of Commerce is
thriving and now is a great
time to get involved. Join the
Chamber and you will find
it to be a great resource for
your business as well. If you
are already a member, it is agreat time to reengage your-
self with us. Let the Greater
North Augusta Chamber be a
part of your success story!

The Growth Coach
Volunteering in our
community is fun and
rewarding. I have been
volunteering with
charities and service
organizations for almost
a year now and it has
changed my life. Here
are 5 reasons to become
a volunteer in our
community.
You can get to
know the people in
your community who
really care about others
by taking their time to
help out where they areneeded. These people
usually live and work
in the area and I like to
work beside them in the
various programs that
have been set up to help
the people in need in our
city. I then choose to go
to them when I need a
product or service they
offer because I know they
are honest and caring
human beings.
I am able to see how
my community plans for
the needs of people as
our population continues
to grow. Then needs for
the people who live and
work here are significant.I enjoy being included
in meetings where the
Chamber, business
people and citizens
discuss matters of great
importance to all of us.
By helping out with
projects that are already
being implemented in
our community you
can see first-hand what
still needs to be done.
The work being done
by some charities and
service organizations will
resonate with you more
than other programs. You
can then spend more of
your time and resources
in the areas that youfeel more strongly about
helping.
Volunteering is an
opportunity to explore
parts of your life that you
may have wanted to work
in earlier in your life. For
example, if you thought
that you may have wanted
to be a teacher you might
work with groups that
help children learn to read
or to relate better to their
peers. If you had a desire
to work in the medical
profession you could give
your time to hospitals and
clinics in your community
that need volunteers to
help out in some aspect
of their work with the
people in your area.
You get the
satisfaction of knowing
that you are helping
people in need. Many of
us have reached out for
help of some kind at one
time or another in our
lives and it feels good to
give back.
Whether you have
volunteered in the past or
have never done so, lookfor opportunities to give
your time and experience
to those who need it
most. You may find that
one particular area has a
need that only you can
fill in the way you feel
it needs to be done. All
great charities and service
organizations started this
way, with one or two
people having a vision
about how they would
like to serve others.

Another dining option may
be in play this summer, with
guidance from local residentLiz Victor.
The pieces are coming into
place for About Thyme Cafe,
to be located at 220 Georgia
Avenue, in the block just
uphill from the municipal
center and downhill from the
Circle K.
It will be something
really unlike anything North
Augusta has so far, Victor
said. The morning, well be
doing muffins and bagels and
different kinds of homemade
cream cheeses and quiche,
as well as little fruit-and-
nut and granola parfaits more like a light continental
breakfast.
Lunch offerings will
include sandwiches four
cold and five hot along
with a design-your-own salad
option, she said.Every day, well have a
blue-plate special, which will
be like a casserole dish that
will come with a salad and
drink, and eventually in the
fall, whatever that casserole
is during that day, youll be
able to get the casserole to go
in the evenings.
Plans are for About Thyme
to start operations probably
toward the end of July, she
added. Hours are to be 7 a.m.
to 4 p.m., Monday through
Saturday.
Victors site was most
recently the location of avideo-rental business. Prior
to that, it was home to a
Kentucky Fried Chicken.
The business owner
pointed out that she is
looking forward to some
sweet family support. Mydad, who is the most fabulous
baker, is doing five different
cakes for us. Theyre really
good.
Plans are for cake sales to
be on a slice-by-slice basis at
first, with whole cakes being
offered later.
Well be doing a whole
lot of takeouts ... We signed
the lease at the end of
January, and have just gutted
the building, back to the
bones, and starting all over
again. Its taken us a while to
get all that done, but we liked
the idea of renovating an oldbuilding and recycling.
