Norm Setting●What will we accept from others

and from ourselves as good use of this time?◦I only have one and that is to be

vulnerable, I certainly am right now. ☺

My LDC Journey

● Literacy Team● My Classroom● SREB Training● More in my classroom ● TPEP Data● Summer SREB train the trainer● My Classroom Now

My Childish way to explain this. ☺ ●Let’s build a rainbow…

●What task?●What skills?●What instruction?●What results

Template Task Collection

What Skills? – Section 2By deconstructing the teaching task the needed skills are identified.

Each skill cluster is broken into specific skills which help to guide teachers in planning instruction.

What Results? – Section 4Scoring Student

Work with the LDC Rubric

• Leading with a Task

What is special about the LDC strategy?

Begin at the Beginning: ●What makes a strong teaching

task?●Look at an example●Practice writing your own

Gallery Walk ●When you are satisfied with your

task please write it on the chart paper and post.

●Please in include on your poster what your students will read.

●Two color sticky notes, informal jurying, warm feedback and questions

Respond to Feedback●Take a few minutes to edit your

task based on the feedback or the questions you received about your task.

Module Template● Choose the module template that

aligns with the type of task you chose◦ On line can be found at: http://www.literacydesigncollaborative.org/how-ldc-works/modules

● Begin to fill in the first two pages

Taking Literacy Higher● The most important piece of the LDC is

the backward design of a unit hard wired to the LDC.

● The ladder is what changes your classroom practice for real

When I am engaged in an LDC unit I am:

1. purposeful

2. on track

3. well planned

4. sure of myself

5. connecting the “daily dots”

Cheater Module/Ladder Planning

Lets Take a Step Back● LDC is closely tied to close reading● Read the blog about close reading and

find a place or two to annotate your reaction

● Share Out● Read the CC Close reading page● A Close Reading Lesson Plan

◦ How can this tie to LDC?

One More Cheater Sheet● Created by myself and Randy Jones● Does not really qualify anything as an

LDC, but a good way to think about the language we are using and to get students and staff use to reading with this sort of focus and purpose.

Important to Note

● This would not be an every day lesson plan

● This would however be something great for one of the main sources for you LDC.

● Students have to read closely to perform these end tasks… if they don’t have to either the source or the question are not worthy.

Work Time

Build that ladder and climb baby climb!
