WELCOME from your KEY 3Dear Scouters,

It is hard for us to believe that as you read this newsletter, our lake project is close to completion. At this time last year our volunteers were working hard on getting the lake drained. This project truly has been a difficult one for all involved. We have had a series of ups, downs, highs, and lows. Three months ago we were questioning whether or not we could actually dig this year. Now this week we added 14,000 fish to the new water. On November 9, 2013, we added fish habitat structures to improve the quality of fishing at Camp Klaus along with finishing our new docks. This officially ended the project. It is now time to look towards the future for Camp Klaus! The future looks bright, and we want you to be a part of it by registering your unit to attend a week of summer camp or a Cub Scout Camping session. Our program team is looking at many new and exciting upgrades to camp to ensure a fun & exciting resident camp experience. Thanks to all who were involved in our lake project! There are too many to list here, but you know who you are. We are planning a lake rededication ceremony for early summer to officially thank everyone. We have fantastic volunteers that have racked up thousands of hours making this project happen. We had raised over $579,550 for the project, which is the largest amount ever raised in our Council’s history for a maintenance project. Those of you who have been able to financially contribute to the campaign, we thank you. We were amazed at the amount of money that we were able to raise for the Munter Match. We ended up raising $73,285 towards the $50,000 match. We are blessed by the generosity of the Scouting Community in the Northeast Iowa Council. Your support will impact the lives of many thousands of Scouts that come to Sum-mer Camp each year. We wish you a blessed Holiday Season, and thank you all for your past and continued service to the Northeast Iowa Council.

Sincerely,

Dave Wagner-Council PresidentRick Leute-Council CommissionerScott Seibert-Scout Executive/CEO

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

The Council would like to recognize our current District Chairman for Dubuque, Rob Reinert. Rob was nominated to the position earlier this year and has already shown great dedication. He has been an especially great resource & district partner for our new District Executive, Peter Supple. Raised in Dubuque, Rob started his Scouting experience with Resurrection, Troop 91. He achieved his Eagle Scout in 1980 and is an Order of the Arrow member. Rob also currently serves as an assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 91.Community involvement is important to Rob. He is a past board member, past president of Dubuque’s Noon Optimist Club, and is the immediate past president of NAIFA –Dubuque, the National Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors. He is also currently on the NICC Advisory Board. Rob says, “There is no greater need than now to have the youth in our communities involved in programs & events that further develop their people and leadership skills in a positive and supporting manner.”Rob’s biggest influence to Scouting goes back to the days of his youth. “I remember my Cub Scout leader, Mrs. Drish. We always seemed to be doing some different activity, craft, or field trip during our meetings. Along with having fun, there was a plan for advancements and getting that next bead or patch.”

Popcorn Top SellersThank you to all of our units who participated in this year’s popcorn sales. Our council sold $516,307 worth of retail popcorn, which is the second largest sale in our council’s history! With your hard work & dedication to

the popcorn sale, our units will have more funds available to put on fantastic programs for Scouts of the NEIC.

Membership Reminder!By now most packs have completed their fall recruitment event for new boys to join. New applications are still coming into the office, however I know some packs are still looking for ways to raise their numbers. October & November are typically big months for follow-up recruiting. Packs are encouraged to hold stand-alone recruiting events or invite new boys and their parents to pack meetings, Halloween parties and other District events, such as the Family Fun Night at the Boys & Girls Club.

If you are a den leader & your den does not have at least 8 boys, please continue to work hard on recruiting to fill the den! All den leaders should encourage their boys to invite friends to a future den meeting & sign them up.

Cubmasters, if you have any applications, please turn them in! We would like to have all the boys registered before the re-chartering process begins.

Anyone can find a pack or troop near them by visiting www.beascout.org

Camporee Recap! It was a beautiful weekend full of Scouting activities at the Bellevue Horseman’s Club on October 11-13th. Both Cub Scouts & Boy Scouts were out enjoying the camporee activities and beautiful weather. Scouts were able to participate in the “Wild West” fire starting, blacksmith, belt making, lassoing, chili supper, & many more activities, which earned them their horseman merit badge. Over 130 Scouts and 75 adults were in attendance. We would like to thank Kevin Davis, Carol Ellerbach, Troop 86, and the rest of the leaders & volunteers for all their support & efforts in running such a great event!

Roundtable UpdateThe District Committee & Commissioning staff has proposed to move Roundtable to new locations in the coming months. The hope is that by moving Roundtable, we will be able to encourage more participation. Many individuals would like to attend, but cannot because of the long drive. This will also expose those who consistently make it to meetings to new communities, friends, and places in our district.

Roundtable Locations: November: Monona (On November 12th, due to Election Day)December: TBD

Dellaykee District Venture Program! The Dellaykee District is excited to announce the formation of a new high-adventure program. The goals of this program are to: - Highlight the fun & exciting outdoor activities in our Council - Give older Boy Scouts more opportunities to explore outside their troop, try new things, and meet more local Scouts - Give older girls the opportunity to have fun with their Boy Scout friends and siblings - Promote the BSA’s Venturing program within Scouts - Help promote the Scouting program in general, as Scouts are encouraged to invite friends on fun adventures

Would you like to spend the day on the high ropes course at Camp Klaus? Learn how to cross country ski and snowshoe? Rock climb at Backbone State Park? Backpacking local trails, or participating in a geocaching event? Then this program is for you! The Dellaykee District Venturing program is for ALL youth: girls, boys, and current Scouts over the age of 14. A sign-up sheet for the events will be out soon, you can sign-up for as many events as you want!

Welcome New Scouts!Together our efforts have brought in 84 new Cub Scouts! Congratulations, that is 80% of our fall recruitment goal!!! But recruitment is not over yet. Please let me know how I can continue to help your pack bring the fun of Cub Scouts to as many boys in your community as possible. And remember recruitment is not an annual event! We should be thinking about and welcoming new Scouts into our units all year round.
