LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

To most of us, Mario de Miranda needs no introduction. Even those that don’t know him by name would probably recognize his unique style of artwork.

He was an artist like no other, inarguably one of the best cartoonists India has ever seen.

As a cartoonist and as an artist, Mario was one of the few Indians whose work has been admired and celebrated at the international level. His inspiration came from

simple everyday things of his surrounding, mostly from his undying love for Goa.

Mario de Miranda passed away on the 11th of December, 2011. But every time we think of Goa, every time we are reminded of Miss Fonseca, and every time we see that delightful and distinctly unique style of art (in a book, as framed artwork or as a mural in a Mumbai Café), his work lives among us.

He has been knighted by the Portuguese government, awarded Spain’s highest civilian honor and the Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India, apart from many other awards and distinctions. Truly, it is an honor for us to be presenting the Comic Con India Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously to one of the greatest Indian artists ever.
