Continuing the tradition and celebrating over 30 years of honouring women,
YWCA Hamilton presents the Women of Distinction Awards.
This year’s event will be held on Tuesday May 3rd at the Hamilton Convention Centre. Award recipients, as well as all nominees, will be
honoured for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the community.
A Woman of Distinction has made a commitment and a ant di erence in her community by showing vision, creativity and initiative. She may:
• be a leader and role model• break new ground and old barriers• be an agent for change• participate actively as a volunteer• provide sig cant mentorship• provide inspiration to others
To be eligible to receive a YWCA Hamilton Women of Distinction Award nominees must:
• Live in the City of Hamilton or
• Make her contribution in the City of Hamilton

- Current members of the event committee are not eligible- Previous award recipients, including Women of the Year are not eligible (unless nominated for Lifetime Achievement Category)
- Members of the current YWCA Hamilton Board, employ YWCA Hamilton are not eligible to nominate or be nominated.

Women of Distinction Award CategoriesNominees will be recognized in the following categories:
1. Arts, Entertainment and Creative Energy
This woman has enriched the community through her work in the area of the arts. Aspects of her work are either focused on women or bene�twomen in the community. She may be encouraging artistic expression in the community, committed to helping others �nd their own creativeexpression, encouraging the achievement of excellence in the arts, and/or promoting the value of the arts as integral to the life of the community.
2. Politics and Public A�airs
This woman has demonstrated noteworthy public service through political or government involvement at any level, participation with public boards,agencies or commissions, or distinguished herself in media, journalism or communications.
3. Health and Wellness
This woman has improved the well-being of our community by advancing quality health care, by fostering better living standards, by providing leadership to sport and physical activity or by promoting healthier lifestyles. Committed to excellence, she brings a vision of the whole person to her work, understanding the interconnection between physical health and social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.
4. Community Development and Social Activism
This is a woman who combines with others to build community strength. She makes changes and advocates for improvements in the communitywhere she lives and in the lives of others. She may be striving for awareness and change in the areas of women’s rights, intercultural relations, socialjustice and peace, and/or the environment.
5. Mentoring and Education
This woman is a mentor and/or educator in many avenues of life; she values teaching and learning through a diversity of interactions with others.She may be developing innovative programs to meet the special needs of learners, and/or building a strong rapport with students, parents,colleagues and the community at large to foster learning in a broader sense. She demonstrates a strong belief that all people can grow and attainsuccess throughout their lives and thus she stimulates students of all ages to think, feel, and learn, and initiates programs which respond to changingindividual and societal needs. Above all, she is committed to assisting others to be successful in their achievements; she inspires and encourageswomen to take part in shaping the future of their own lives and their communities.
6. Business, Industry and Entrepreneurship
This woman may be in business, professional practice or trade. She may be an advocate, a mentor, a visionary or trailblazer in her �eld. Thecontributions she makes in her area of expertise provide signi�cant and lasting bene�t to her community and/or has increased opportunities forwomen’s participation in these �elds. Her leadership and commitment to excellence are her hallmarks.
7. Volunteerism
This woman is making a di�erence by volunteering in her community. She has shown her dedication by creating, participating or adaptingprograms to meet community needs. She has also demonstrated the strength and resolve to weather the challenges facing her community. Neverbound by anyone’s de�nition of volunteering, she forges new ground by refusing to believe that there are limits to how we can share skills and carefor others.
8. Young Woman of Distinction
This is a woman under 19 who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in her school, community and/or workplace and has inspired her peers tofollow her example. She has demonstrated leadership, maturity, perseverance, innovation, compassion and a keen understanding of community orglobal issues. This exceptional young woman has already made her mark and will continue to inspire us for years to come.
9. Circle of Friends Award
This group of individuals or organization has developed and implemented a women-focused program to support, improve and enrich the lives ofwomen in our community. Collectively, they have shared a vision and worked e�ectively together to make their dream a reality.
10. Lifetime Achievement Award
This woman is 55 years or better and has made a profound and/or unique di�erence to the lives of those around her. The recipient must be seenas a role model, mentor and/or advocate for positive social change.

2011 Women of Distinction AwardsNomination Form
Nomination Packages must consist of the following documents:1. Completed Nomination Form. (See previous page.)
2. Statement Of Nomination - Describe the nominee’s contributions and impact in the award category that best the nominee. (Maximum of 4 pages.)
3. Provide a short of the nominee (maximum of 120 words), which features the highlights of the Statement of Nomination.(Following review and editing, will be made available to the media and published in the Awards Dinner Program.)
4. Letters of support. (Minimum 2, maximum 5)

6. Nomination Package checklist
Format Requirements:To be considered by the selection committee, all Nomination Packages must be received in the following format:
1. 8-1/2 x 11 white paper only, single sided, using black ink.
2. Tape or photocopy newspaper clippings, etc, to 8-1/2 x 11 white paper before submission.
3. No binders, folders or staples. (Please use paper clips.)
4. Packages will not be returned. Please do not include personal items, videos, cd’s or original material.
Selection Process:1. Nominations will be evaluated only on the merit of the submissions received.
2. As a nominator, it is your responsibility to the achievements of the nominee to the Selection Committee, to draw out her exceptional contribution.
3. Be thorough and factual. While only women may be nominated for an award (except Circle of Friends Award), men, women or organizationsmay be nominators.
4. The Nomination Package for each nominee will be reviewed for completeness. Nominators may be contacted for clar or forconsultation should it believed that an alternate category more accurately a nominee’s background and achievements.
5. Late and/or incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
6. Nomination packages will be receipted upon submission. Please hold onto your dated and time-stamped receipt as proof the nominationwas received by the deadline.
7. Completed Nomination Packages will be forwarded to the Selection Committee, an independent group consisting of women who represent a variety of interests, experience and community involvement, for their review and award recipient selection.
8. The decisions of the Selection Committee are and will remain until the evening of the gala awards.
