The Noblesville Common Council took preliminarysteps at tonightrsquos meeting to move forward on the east-westcorridor along Pleasant Street The council unanimouslyapproved the use of $275 million from the Rainy Day Fundto create a preliminary design of the project and the use of$1 million for land acquisition as properties enter the market
ldquoThe funding provides my administration with theability to prepare preliminary designs for the Pleasant Streetcorridor in order to evaluate and consider the footprint ofthe projectrsquos impactrdquo Ditslear said ldquoUntil we complete this
initial design wersquore unable to make any decisions about thepotential route which leaves our residents in limbo Weowe it to them to move forwardrdquo
Following a year-long period of discussions with localand county officials the City held a public meeting at CityHall on December 13 2016 to present a summary of thealternative route analysis Administration announced itsrecommendation that Pleasant Street serve as the primaryroute for the east-west corridor in accordance with the Cityof Noblesville Thoroughfare Plan that was approved in 1995
The new funding would allow for a preliminary designand field survey of the route assessments of environmentaland utility impacts and impacts to adjoining properties inrelation to proposed cross sections as well as roadway andtrail design ndash to be coordinated with relevant utilitycompanies Hamilton County and other governmentagencies

Community needs are met with spacesallowing for indoor programming and eventslike bubble soccer pickleball and fitnessclasses rental space for youth sports andbirthday parties and an indoor performancevenue Partnering with Noblesville Parksallowed Ivy Tech to return the investmentto the community and truly made it an assetfor taxpayers whether a student parkparticipant or partner Since the inceptionof the partnership in October 2015 it hasseen more than $43000 in revenues andmore than 15500 participants to NoblesvilleParks and Ivy Tech Campus

and processing plant on a small farmnortheast of Noblesville has been delayedafter the petitioner amended his request Thecontroversial plan submitted by ArtJohnson Noblesville went to countycommissioners Monday but because of theamended zoning request it was sent to thecounty plan commission for a second review
Johnson told commissioners he isamending the size of the proposed operationfrom 36 acres to only 10 acres of hisproperty on 211th Street east of Ind 37Several residents living near the propertyand opposed the plans appeared at thecommissioners meeting represented byNoblesville attorney Gordon Byers
The plan commission had consideredJohnsons request earlier and forwarded it to
commissioners without making arecommendation of approval or denialCommissioners must make a final decisionon changes in such zoning The plancommission meets next on February 15 afterwhich the matter will return again tocommissioners in late February or March

ldquoOn every project a preliminary designis essential to not only assess its impacts butto engage utility companies and to refinecosts and alternatives This funding willenable the City of Noblesville to establish acenterline corridor from State Road 37 toHague Road and provide us more detail onthe projectrdquo said John Beery city engineer
Meanwhile city officials continue tostudy the area for its historical significancein anticipation of launching the design
phase Noblesville Deputy Mayor SteveCooke met with Noblesville historian DavidHeighway and an official from IndianaLandmark to drive the potential route alongPleasant Street
ldquoWersquove said all along that this roadproject will present many challenges ndash butit will create opportunities as wellrdquo saidCooke ldquoWe can work together to helpminimize threats to our local history Andto make sure we do this project in a way thatimproves connectivity and safe access fornearby residents using multiple modes oftransportationrdquo

A native of South Bend Ike was a graduate of Indiana Universityand the University Of Wisconsin Graduate School Of Banking He commenced a careerin the banking industry in Michigan rising to become the President and CEO of FirstNational Bank of Cassopolis In 1983 he was named President of the former WainwrightBank in Noblesville He was the founder of MetroBank (the first de novo chartered bankin Indiana in many decades) in Carmel Indiana in 1988 and served as its President untilits merger with First Indiana Bank in 2003 Upon his retirement from the banking industryIke served Krieg DeVault LLP as a financial consultant He was a member of the Boardof Directors of numerous organizations including USA Funds where he served asChairman from 2013-2016 Indiana Hemophilia amp Thrombosis Center and HealthcareInitiatives Inc He served the Hamilton County community as a member of the Board ofTrustees of Riverview Hospital for 24 years retiring as its Chairman in 2014 as well asvolunteer positions with the Boys and Girls Club of Noblesville and the Chambers ofCommerce in Carmel and Noblesville

On January 18 1970 he married Sarah E (Bartle) Batalis whosurvives along with two sons George C Batalis (Carla) Tampa FLand Nicholas I Batalis MD (Gretchen) of Charleston SC and fourgrandchildren Dennis Batalis Jack Batalis Ike V Batalis and EllaBatalis His brother Chris G Batalis and sister Bessie M Reimnitzpredeceased him
A native of South Bend Ike was a graduate of Indiana Universityand the University Of Wisconsin Graduate School Of Banking He commenced a careerin the banking industry in Michigan rising to become the President and CEO of FirstNational Bank of Cassopolis In 1983 he was named President of the former WainwrightBank in Noblesville He was the founder of MetroBank (the first de novo chartered bankin Indiana in many decades) in Carmel Indiana in 1988 and served as its President untilits merger with First Indiana Bank in 2003 Upon his retirement from the banking industryIke served Krieg DeVault LLP as a financial consultant He was a member of the Boardof Directors of numerous organizations including USA Funds where he served asChairman from 2013-2016 Indiana Hemophilia amp Thrombosis Center and HealthcareInitiatives Inc He served the Hamilton County community as a member of the Board ofTrustees of Riverview Hospital for 24 years retiring as its Chairman in 2014 as well asvolunteer positions with the Boys and Girls Club of Noblesville and the Chambers ofCommerce in Carmel and Noblesville

Dr Brittain E Lukens III 80 of McCordsville passed away on Monday January 232017 at his home He was born on September 17 1936 to the late Brittain E Lukens Jrand Madelon (Callenbach) Lukens in Woodbury New Jersey
Brittain proudly served his country as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Forceduring peace time He graduated from Eastern Baptist College with a BS degree and fromPalmer Chiropractic College in Davenport Iowa For 40 years Brittain worked as achiropractor owning Lukens Chiropractic in Versailles Indiana for 35 years and inMcCordsville for 5 years retiring in December of 2016 He was a member of The Churchof Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was an ordinance worker in the LDS Temple ofChicago Louisville and Indianapolis and served a 2-year LDS mission as the leader ofan addiction recovery group Brittain was a member of the International ChiropractorsAssociation of Indiana and was dedicated to family church and chiropractic
