The Northeast Alabama Bicycle Association (NEABA) is pleased to again bring you this weekend’s festival and cycling events. We are a club comprised of individuals and families who are passionate about active lifestyles and promoting cycling and the outdoors. Visit us at www.neaba.net. We’d love to have your join our organization!

We not only welcome locals to the events this weekend, but we welcome several thousand out of town guests, as well. More than 500 competitors from across the U.S. and several foreign countries will race in the Sunny King Criterium on Saturday. Sunday will feature the Cheaha Challenge presented by Wells Fargo Advisors—a ride in Piedmont for recreational cyclists of all ages and abilities that attracts more than 600 participants from over 25 states.Sunday will also feature the 2nd Annual Foothills Classic Road Race, a competitive long distance race in Piedmont that will attract an additional 350 cyclists from across the country. Most all of these cyclists bring other travelers with them to our community, thereby boosting tourism and providing our community the opportunity to show our Southern hospitality!

The Anniston Runners Club and YMCA will kick things off early Saturday morning, hosting a 5K run for kids and adults on a course that will take participants on a tour of downtown Anniston.

In addition to the bike and running races, don’t miss the great food in the Red Diamond Restaurant Tour. Serving from tents and dining tables

in the street, twelve restaurants will offer lunch and dinner from 11am to 8pm. The Scion KidZone is larger this year than in any of the previous 8 years. Check out the schedule for NEW attractions, like Alien Laser Tag, Copter Twirl, and more. Papa Smurf, Star Wars characters, JSU’s Cocky, Gadsden State’s Swoosh, and Mellow Mushroom’s Mel will provide entertainment for kids of all ages. And the “just for fun” bike race for kids will be a major hit again this year.

The Hot Blast Music Café provides a diverse mix of music from various artists all day, and the Mellow Mushroom Mad Dash provides kids a chance to run one lap around the .7-mile bike race course. Add art vendors, Relay

for Life booths, and sponsor booths for a full day of fun on Saturday!

Sunday’s Cheaha C h a l l e n g e presented by Wells Fargo Advisors in Piedmont will offer route options from 26 miles (with very few hills), to 102 miles and a climb

over Cheaha Mountain—twice! We hope you will cheer for these cyclists as they travel Hwy 9 and the Scenic Drive, but we especially hope you will be courteous and safe as you encounter them on the roadways.

These events are made possible by our sponsors and the tireless efforts ofhundredsofvolunteers. TheNobleStreetFestivalbenefitsCalhounCounty Relay for Life. More than $60,000 has been donated since 2005, andthe2011goalis$10,000.TheCheahaChallengebenefitstheChiefLadiga Trail. More than $23,000 has been donated to this community project.

Welcome to the 9th Annual Noble Street Festival and19th Annual Cheaha Challenge presented by Wells Fargo Advisors!

You can make a difference in a

homebound person’s lifeMeals on Wheels has been serving disabled and homeboundresidents of our county for the past 25 years. One hundred hotwholesome meals are delivered five days a week to individualswho wouldn’t otherwise have access to one. The meals are pre-pared by Stringfellow Hospital Food Service with each client’sspecific dietary needs considered.

The meals are delivered by volunteers. Currently we have awaiting list for persons who are in need of these meals, but wedo not have enough volunteers to add routes to cover thesepeople. There is a real need in the Saks, Weaver, andAlexandria area.

Please contact MEALS ON WHEELS,and volunteer to drive a route. If twentypeople would volunteer, we could start aroute in the above mentioned areas. You would only have to drive every other week. We do prefertwo people to drive a route in order to cover the area quicker and safer.

Just one hour of your timewill mean so much to others.256-237-4538

1 Peter 4:8-10: “Above all, keep fervent your love for one another…Be hospitable to one another without complaint.

As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another.”

Does it cost to attend? It’s FREE to attend! Many of the ac-tivities for kids are free, including hands-on art, Anniston Museum booth, Scion KidZone Stage shows, and more. There is no admission charged to attend the general festival or to watch the action-packed bike races.

What about food?Twelve local restaurants will be set up on Noble Street under tents at what we call the Red Diamond Res-taurant Tour. They will be offering lunch and dinner for modest prices from 11am to 8pm. Dining tables will be placed in the street so you can dine outdoors and enjoy the fes-tival. Red Diamond will offer their fa-mous tea and lemonade. Pepsi will provide soft drink options. Please do not bring your own food to the festi-val, but plan to patronize these local restaurants. A portion of funds you spend on food and drink supports our donation to Relay for Life!

Is this a family event?Yes!Kidsandadultsofallagesfindthe festival entertaining - we promise!

What about music? One of the dining areas is the Hot Blast Music Café. This large tent will feature local and regional acts all day. You can sit and enjoy the music in the shade while you eat or while you rest your feet from festival walk-ing!

What about the bike & run-ning races for kids? This is one of the most popular ac-tivities at the festival. Watching chil-dren from tricycle-age to 6th grade ride their bikes a few hundred yards and cross the actual Finish Line of the bike racecourse in front of the cheer-ing crowd is priceless. The Mellow Mushroom Mad Dash running race has the same excitement. It’s a one-

lap trot around the bike race course (.7mile),with an exciting finish infront of the crowd. The cost is $10 for each race, or $18 for both. The first100Kidswillreceiveacustomtshirt and goodie bag for each event. Register in Classic on Noble on Sat-urday from noon to 4:30pm. Races start at 5!

What about the running race for adults? The adult running race has been moved to Saturday at 7:30am at the YMCA. Visit our web site and click on “YMCA 5K” for all the details and to register.

Anything different or exciting about this year’s bike races?Yes! We have more Pro Men’s teams registered than ever before for the Sunny King Criterium, creating a 7:30pm race that you will not want to miss! The Scion KidZone has doubled in size and will not only cover one block of Noble, but will also stretch onto East 10th Street. We welcome several new restaurants to the Red Diamond Restaurant Tour. The bike races and surrounding festival will be streamed live on the internet from our event web site, as well as from www.velonews.com/live, an international cycling publication.
