Vision
• In the climate context, NOAA’s role is to be an authoritative and credible source of climate data and services for science and society, and an honest broker in its assessments of the state of the climate system and forecasts of its future.
• To succeed in this vision, NOAA’s offices, labs, centers, and partners must work collaboratively, and the Portal will serve as a primary, unifying focal point.
• Existing Web interfaces across NOAA will continue to evolve in concert with the NCS Portal, with increasing seamlessness.
• We do not plan one massive, centralized Website to host and serve all datasets and products; not practical nor doable.
• Rather, think centralized access for users, decentralized process among NOAA personnel for developing & serving products & services.

Goal and Objectives
Goal: Develop “one-stop” Web portal for discovery & delivery of
NOAA’s climate information, resources, and services
Objectives: Enhance the discoverability, accessibility and usability of climate
data, products, services Enhance interoperability and leveraging of software and
products Implement metadata standards Promote a user focused view and consistent delivery of climate
services across NOAA

Overview The NCSP will be user/audience-focused, with four
primary components: Climate data and services Climate-watch magazine Climate education Understanding climate
Development of the NCSP is ongoing courtesy of “donated” effort from four NOAA Line Offices
Three workshops held thus far: Asheville NC (host-NCDC) in Aug 08; Charleston SC (host-NOS) in Dec 08, Silver Spring MD (host-NWS & CPO) in Jun 09.
The Phase 1 prototype is now online …. www.climate.gov
