No, I’m not retired!Debbie FitzermanDFC International

It’s always the same:

I shared my space with:

My new neighbourhood…

“Traditional” Workers:• Government Services

• Provincial• Federal• County• Municipal

• Prisons• Military• Education• “Traditional” corporate workers

We downsized:• Our house• Our IT infrastructure

• No longer have 60MB x 10MB with unlimited data internet service• No longer have “C” class license & 255 IP addresses

Our former infrastructure

Which gave us the following:

Connections Mobile File & Print Web

Sametime(Messaging) Sandbox Fax File & Print

Backup Support

Present Infrastructure

What we have now:• Connections: Activities, Communities, Files, etc• Mail• Verse• Meetings• Messaging• Traveler/mobile services• File services• Print services• Backup• Support services• Web • Sandbox• Phone services

Phone service features• Devices• Toll Free Numbers• Local Numbers• Auto Attendant• Virtual Extensions• Music-on-Hold• Call Waiting• Caller ID• Message Notification• Call History• Call Transfer• Fax Send and Receive• Voicemail• Voicemail to Text• Voicemail Manager

• Call Queue• Call Analysis• Call Forwarding• Virtual Calling Card & Call Back• Directory• Custom Greetings• Portal• Call-Me-Now• Automated Call Recording• Operator Panel• Call Parking• 911 Service• Conference• APIs available for integration

Benefits• Work where I want• #NewWay to Learn• Inferior internet service makes us better consultants• Cost savings• Time savings• More productive• Power failures don’t affect us (in the same way)• People outside our organization can collaborate• Connections, meetings & Sametime are available to every size of business

What we don’t have now• Maintenance issues

• Service packs• O/S updates• Hardware getting old & breaking

• Worries about power outages• Power consumption• Distractions with the infrastructure

Gotchyas• Printing from the cloud is not a good idea• Most people are not used to working this way so you have to be patient and teach them• Trust issues….

• How do you “sell” it to all levels?• Top down• Micro-managers

• Guest “privileges” on Connections Cloud –they are changing…to what?!• People! Culture!

Working in the cloud is not new• Started in the late 1990’s• It takes “practise”

• What is the best way to communicate?• What is the best medium for each task?• When is IM best, when is email best and when is the best time to pick up the phone or even meet in person?

• Technology has gotten better and more reliable• People are the “same”

I’ve delegated……my work – to the cloud!
