OnSaturday28thNovember,over40BrightonpupilswokeupbeforesunriseandheadedtotheEmiratesPalacemarina,wherethefirstoftheJuniorAquathonserieswasbeingheld.Inavarietyofraces,competitorscompletedanopenwaterswimfrom200-400mandfinishedwitha600-1500mrun(includingafinal100mfinishthroughthesandonthebeach).Overall,Brightonfinished2ndintheteamcompetition.

LastweeksawtheU19Boys’Footballfinish4thinaclosecompetition.Thisweek,theU11AGirls’Footballbattledtothefinaloftheirtournament–wheretheywerenarrowlybeaten1-0byGEMSCambridge(seebelowformatchreport).TheU12ABoys’Footballfailedtoreachthesemi-finalsafterlosingnarrowlyin2oftheir3groupgamestofinish5thoverall.Similarly,theU12BBoys’Footballnarrowlymissedoutonasemi-finalplacedespiteawinandadrawintheirgroupgames–eventuallyfinishing5thoverallwitha3-1winoverCranleigh.TheU16BoysFootballmanaged4thplaceintheirevent.

TheU9AandBteamhadtheirfinalrugbyoutingofthetermattheendofseasontournamentatCranleigh.TheBteamnarrowlylosttheirfirstgametoYasminabeforebeatingMushrif,followingstrongperformancesfromKasparHawke,AntonNorinandFlorenceChambers.TheythenplayedagainstaverystrongBISADsideinthesemi-finaland,despiteabattlingdisplay,lostouttwotriestonil.Gettingtothesemi-finalisafantasticachievementandtheplayerscanbeveryproudofthemselves.
TheU9Ateamwentunbeatenintheirgroupmatches,narrowlybeatingYasminabeforemorecomfortablevictoriesagainstMushrifandRaha.TheythencameupagainstBISADinthesemi-finalandgavetheperformanceoftheseasonastheywonbytwotries!OnebrilliantpassingmovesawtheballtraveltobothsidesofthepitchbeforeCharlotteMiddlehursttoucheddowninthecorner.ThefinalwasatightaffairagainstCranleighandafterfulltimethescorewas0-0.Extratimewastobeplayedwiththefirstteamtoscorecrownedasthewinners.Brightonheldonforacoupleofminutesbeforegainingpossession.AdamStanderwentonablisteringrunwhichcreatedspaceforTomNesbittwhobeatthelastdefenderandscoredinthecorner,tothedelightofhisteammates.Thewholeteamplayedbrilliantlythroughouttheafternoonandthewinwasnolessthantheydeserved!

Inthesemi-final,BrightonfacedstrongfavouritesBSAKanddespitedefendingforthemajorityofthegame,managedtofinishthegame0-0andmovedintoextratime.TheentireBrightonteamtackledtirelesslyandsomeoutstandingsavesfromAliciaingoalkeptBrighton’shopesalive.Theresultingpenaltyshoot-outsawBrightonemergeasnail-biting3-2winners,withMariaInesscoringthewinningkickatthesecondattempt.
Inthefinal,BrightonfacedGEMSCambridge,anddespiteaveryevenstarttothegame,GEMStookanearlyleadafterararemissedtackleindefence.Brightonrespondedstronglywithseveralchancestolevelthegame–buttimeranoutandthetitledriftedawayfromBrightontofinishaveryrespectable2ndplaceoverall.
