Shows that it may be too late for them to start/fix what they have.

She doesn’t want to be with anyone else even though it is clear that they don’t work out together. They keep pushing this relationship forward, but they know it is done.

Shows persistence/her unwillingness to give up.

Well, I'm still here like a cheap threat

‘drunk’ could be metaphor that she is in love and doesn’t really mean what she is saying. This is further emphasised by the fact that she is ‘hurling’ curses at his ‘surface’ giving the idea that it isn’t very effective.

She doesn’t want to argue/ cant argue with him because she loves him. Also, it indicates that she has put her walls down, and fallen in love with him even though she wanted to avoid that.

He doesn’t seem to take her seriously or think their arguments are really important. Maybe he isn’t in love with her ?

He laughs at her like her concerns are not important, making her feel powerless

There was no sentiment, just sex. Although she has feelings for him, the though of them together is not necessarily pleasant. This could be due to the fact that she probably began to take what they have more seriously after this.

Is he possibly in love with someone else? She doesn’t mean much to him and it hurts her.

She wants something more than what they have even though she is adamant to seem indifferent about it

She wants to be honest with him, but maybe admitting that she wants them to be something would push him away? Her unspoken words, choke her.

By telling him how she really feels it could mean that they cant be together so she would rather just avoid it

She is self destructive because it helps her numb out how she feels about them/him.

She seems to become more upset and drunk as the song goes. This could be the reason she avoids relationships; she knows she will fall too hard and too fast.

This gives the impression that the artist is delusional and losing control. Too drunk maybe ?

OVERALL IDEA

• This talks about a very confusing relationship. A possible narrative for this would be the typical dysfunctional boy/girl relationship. The girl wants to seem strong and unable to really care for anyone, but deep down she is falling in love with someone. However, it turns out that she is just a rebound to him, who is still in love with someone else, and when she realises that she is taking their relationship seriously, it hurts her and she becomes self destructive.

• Ultimately, the narrative would take place in three different settings. One would show the couple happy, the other would show them arguing, and a last one would be focused on the artists perspective. The video would cut between these three situations which would take place at different times, therefore not making the narrative linear. Also, there wouldn’t be a happy ending to the video, which contradicts the typical romantic video stereotypes.

• The idea for this narrative came from music videos such as ‘Hailee Steinfield – Rock Bottom’ and ‘Eminem ft. Rihanna – Love The Way You Lie’
