Starting July 1st, Merritt Centennialscoach Luke Pierce will be the new headcoach of the WHL Kootenay Ice in Cran-brook. Luke has been the head coach andgeneral manager of the Cents since 2009,returning to his hometown and the teamhe played for & came up through as achild. During his time as coach, Lukebrought the team to the playoffs everyseason, and was named BCHL InteriorConference Coach of the Year at the endof the 2012-13 season. All the best, Luke!

Disaster Relief Assistance (DRA)approved for Merritt
TNRD announced that, as a result ofthe damages sustained from the storm onSaturday, provincial Disaster Financial As-sistance has been authorized for qualify-ing claimants — such as home owners,residential tenants, small business own-ers, farmers and charitable organizations— who were unable to obtain insuranceto cover these disaster-related losses.
The areas approved for Disaster Fi-nancial Assistance are: TNRD ElectoralAreas E, I, M & N, the Village of CacheCreek, the City of Merritt, the District ofLogan Lake, and the Village of Lytton.
To be eligible for assistance, the dam-age must be from an event which is unin-surable, including overland flooding andgroundwater seepage. Specifically, thedisaster events currently eligible for as-sistance is “overland flooding” on May23, 2015. There is a 90-day deadline forapplications, so they must be submittedto Emergency Management BC (EMBC)by August 24, 2015.

Back Country Horse-men ‘Rendezvous’
Kelly Allen & her husband Ron Stolpmoved to the area 2 years ago. They havebeen members of Back Country Horse-men of BC for over 13 years, and last yearthey started a chapter here in Merritt —making 22 chapters province-wide withover 800 members, and growing!
June 5-7, they will be holding the An-nual Rendezvous and AGM here in townat the rodeo grounds. Kelly is hoping thatpeople will come out and see what the or-ganization is all about.
