Dear reader, Welcome to the new issue of Infosylva. In this issue, FAO announced a new regional initiative which will help ten Central African countries to set up advanced national forest monitoring systems. From Bangladesh, a significant number of small and marginal farmers attained economic emancipation through the participatory social afforestation programme. A research on tropical forests, developed in Spain, has determined the time need for a tropical dry forest recover after logging. En esta edición, la FAO ha anunciado una nueva iniciativa regional que ayudará a diez países de África Central a establecer sistemas nacionales avanzados de monitoreo de los bosques Desde Bangladesh, un número significativo de pequeños agricultores han logrado la emancipación económica a través del programa de forestación social participativa. Una investigación sobre los bosques tropicales, desarrollado en España, ha determinado el tiempo necesario para que un bosque tropical seco se recupere tras una tala. FAO Forestry announcements Farmers benefit from forest privatization in China The FAO forest tenure project, underway in 6 provinces in China, is helping smooth the transition to private forest ownership. Funded by the European Commission and implemented by the State Forestry Administration of China, the project will also improve rural livelihoods as well as make forest management more sustainable.
