PRESIDENT’S PAGE
It’s November already as I write this page and the first warm
day of the summer season is upon us and so are the Mozzies,
they will be bad this season.
The November meeting will be toy donation time and thanks
go out to the member who made toys either at home or at our toy working
bee’s. There is now over 500 toys in storage but that does not mean that they
will all go out but there will be plenty for all.
Invites to our March Wood Show have started to return with a couple of new
faces along with reliable old faces, Chris Vesper tool maker. who hasn’t been to
our woodshow for some time has accepted and a first time turner from Metung.
At the November meeting I will have some duties allocated for our
woodshow as there are plenty of positions to fill, floor duties, ticket duties,
office duties as in sales office, demo duties, security etc.
As I write this we have had our first night at the club rooms with our new
security lights which are much improved but we may need one more light in a
dark spot. The new lights which are all L.E.D.s could not come soon enough as
there was another break in to school property, the pump room at the adjacent
toilet block where bricks were removed the door lock to gain entry and take off
with the pump and controls for the oval watering system. We need to make
some new protective cages to cover our new lights, If this is your field of
expertise please let me know.
Some of our members took advantage of the demo’s done by Ken Wraight
with the Eildon Woodies and all said it was worth the trip.
We have 20 members going to Pops shed, Pete’s bargain centre, Eltham
Hotel for lunch, and the Eltham Wood Show Saturday 12th November, names
on the white board please.
Foot Note:- Our new security lights come on at dark and go off at first light,
hope this defers the little “Bs” and the big “Bs”.
Keep the Mozzies at bay
Len.

COMMITTEE GENERAL BUSINESS 10/10/16
Accreditation. The Accreditation process is to be streamlined and completed as soon as
possible. Len has recently accredited 2 more members.
Club purchases of consumables such as tea, coffee etc., areto be purchased on a monthly
basis to save Len having to waste time on this task. Helen has volunteered to do these
purchases for 12 months, along with a different member each month. She will approach a
member to accompany her each month, This way numerous members will know the
routine of purchasing such items. A credit account is being applied for at I.G.A., SPC
Ardmona also needs to be supported as one of our woodshow sponsors.
Toolamba Festival and Bunnings B.B.Q. 26th Nov. Members available to assist with
both or one of these activities please place your name on the white board. A roster for the
B.B.Q. will be drawn up and made available to all members.
Band Saw blades still an issue with breakages- possibly caused by pushing to hard and
trying to go to fast. Tension to be taken off the band saws and drop down signs attached.
With the expense the committee is investigating the purchase of a tension meter.
Xmas Competition. New toy that can be mass produced.
Mill Platform: It has been suggested that consideration be given to the construction of a
platform with rails, outside the roller door, be considered so the mill could be wheeled
out onto landing for use. Also the landing would make it easier loading of equipment
onto the trailers, etc.
Alan’s accident highlighted the need for the beard protectors to be worn in the
workshop. Also the requirement of calling an Ambulance if an accident occurs . Club
requires this to be done to avoid further repercussions. The Accident has also brought the
attention, of which members have Ambulance cover. Should this be on membership
forms?.
Name Change: of the Club: The matter of the club name was raised at the committee as a
possible reason for prospective members being put off by the term Woodturning, an
example of Helen Pickersgill given at meeting. If Helen hadn’t attended the G.V.
Woodshow she would not have joined the club as she was not interested in woodturning.
Members to consider this issue of name change as a special resolution which is to be
voted upon at the next general meeting. Suggests name change to Goulburn Valley
Woodworkers Inc. or Woodworkers/Crafters of the Goulburn Valley.
