NNS Unplugged – We have now completed NNS Unplugged for the
week. We took this time to unplug from all screens and provide an opportunity for students and staff to reflect on learning with and without the use of tech-nology. It would be great for you to take this opportunity to talk with your kids about how learning went for them this week. Thank you to Boys and Girls Club for joining us in NNS Unplugged.
PEAKS – Nikiski North Star students in grades 3-5 will participate in
statewide testing PEAKS testing. The testing will take place during the last week of March and the first week of April.
Outstanding Student – Please join me in congratulating Kailey
Stynsberg as our 5th grade Masonic Outstanding Student for the 2017-2018 school year. Congratulations as well to our 5th grade finalists James Hemphill and Avery Ellis.
School Safety – NNS participates in safety drills at regular intervals
throughout the year. I wanted to let you know that the topic of school safety and reviewing those protocols will be an agenda item at our next NNS Site Council meeting which will be held on Mon-day, March 5 @ 3:45 in the library. All are welcome to attend.
– Our Parent Teacher Association
needs your help. This organization is vital to
providing the picnics, carnivals, family nights
and other activities that make Nikiski North
Star a welcoming and wonderful school. Your
participation and membership is needed. The
next meeting will be held on Thursday, April 5
@ 3:45 in the library. Everyone enjoyed Love of Reading Month!

Dear Parents of Fifth Graders, On March 8th, your child’s class will be covering the health curriculum about normal growth and development during puberty. Boys and girls will be in different groups. Mrs. Barnes and I will show a video and speak with the girls while Mr. Kelso, and Mr. Stanley do the same with the boys. The girls will only see the section of the video about girls’ growth and development, and the boys will only see the boys’ section. The children will write their questions down so we can ensure that only the appropriate information will be covered. I will be available in the Nurses’ office Monday through Friday 8:30-3:30 if you would like to preview the video or have any questions. My number is 776-2614. If you decide your student should not participate, please let me or their teacher know in writing so that we can prepare for and provide him/her with alternate activities during that time. As always, please feel free to call or come in if you have any questions. Sincerely, Deni Pennison RN Nikiski North Star School Nurse
