June 6, 2016 Dear Shipbuilders, One of the most important civic duties we have as American citizens is the right to vote. Exercising this right is something that shouldn’t be taken for granted, which is why I would like to remind you about the upcoming primary elections in North Carolina on June 7 and Virginia on June 14. These primaries are to choose Republican and Democratic candidates who will run for various offices during the general election in November.

Congressional districts in both states have been redrawn since the last election, so I urge you to check the following websites to see if you live in a district where an election will be held, as well as your current voting location and the candidates on your ballot:

Virginia: www.vpap.org/local-politics North Carolina: www.ncvoter.org/voting-in-nc/your-ballot

Polls in North Carolina will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on June 7. Polls in Virginia will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 14. I also want to remind you that voters in both states will be required to show a photo ID prior to casting their ballot.

Participation in the political process affects our communities and nation today and in the future. No matter what candidate you decide to support, you have a right to let your voice be heard. If you live in a district with an impending primary, I encourage you to make every effort to get out and vote.

Sincerely,

Matt Mulherin President
