No bail for Fatana murder accused By Martie Pretorius ([email protected]) MOKOPANE -Two of the three men ac- cused of the murder on Gideon Fatana were denied bail in the Mokopane Magis- trate Court on Monday. Fatana was shot and killed at his home on 27 March.

Man ek is lief vir hierdie dogtertjie!#MyHero".

MOKOPANE -Two of the three men ac-cused of the murder on Gideon Fatana were denied bail in the Mokopane Magis-trate Court on Monday. Fatana was shot and killed at his home on 27 March.

After a long day’s attempt to convince the court to release the Charles Mogale (45) and Thabo Alfred Matlaila (30) on bail, defense attorney Cara Alberts did not convince the magistrate that there were exceptional circumstances requiring them to be released. “Exceptional circumstances indicate something unusual or remarkable,” said magistrate Joseph Ngoasheng.

is. “Dit sal tot almal se voordeel strek as

Police man nabbed for hijackingMOKOPANE – A police sergeant, Nelson Thomas Mdluli, was arrested last week for the alleged hijacking of a vehicle in Polokwane.

Mdluli was dressed in full police uniform at the time of his ar-rest in Mokopane later the same day. Police in Mokopane said in a statement that Mdluli failed to identify himself to members of the Mahwelereng highway patrol after being approached.

Mdluli’s appearance at the Mokopane Magistrate Court on 8 July resulted in the case being postponed without bail.

Guilty of assualt and rapeLEPHALALE – Johannes Lesetja Malatje was sen-tenced to life in prison ’n Tuesday for assaulting and raping a 53-year-old woman in Shongwane earlier this year.

According to warrant officer Frans Mokoena of the Lephalale SAPS, excellent investigative work was conducted by the police members investigating the case.“Due to hard work and diligence by our police members, the courts were able to convict this man and justice prevailed,” Mokoena said.

Malatje was apprehended after a cell phone left be-hind was used to trace him and led to his arrest.

MOKOPANE - A sprightly great-great-grandmother and believed to be the oldest citizen in Mogalak-wena showed off some nifty moves as she celebrated her 105th birth-day last weekend in the Ga-Madiba Village.

Community members, neighbors, family, friends and councilors of the Mogalakwena Municipality were amongst those who celebrated with Koko Raesetja “Ntjetji” Tsoai. Tsoai’s first-born child is 84-years-old!

She surprised guests when she displayed her handwork she does at home during the day. She can do many things and prefers sewing as she is home most of the time.

She says the secret to long life is keeping active and eating healthy as possible at all times. She en-couraged the audience especially the youth to refrain from drugs to respect elders so their days can be multiplied.

She has 10 children, 36 grand-children, 70 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great children and four great-great-great grandchildren.

Acting municipal speaker, coun-cilor Suzan Choga, said that the mu-nicipality was honoured to be part of the celebrations while councilor Francinah Mutshinya said that Tsoai was one of the women who par-ticipated in one of the most historic events in the struggle for freedom and women’s rights in South Africa.

“Matriekafskeid vandag is tien keer erger as trou,” sê ’n Mokopane inwoner wie se sus-terskind verlede jaar in Polokwane gematri-kuleer het.

Maxwell said that the classrooms can house about 40 stu-dents each and that they will be focusing specifically on artisan skills. “A large number of locally employed people are unskilled but have gained experience on projects like Medupi. How to deal with road rage Aggressive driving is a real threat to the safety of all road users says the police. Therefore they are sharing the following tips to motorists on how to deal with aggressive drivers and reduce stress:

Any unsafe driving behaviour, performed deliberately and with ill-intention or disregard for safety, can constitute aggressive driving. In extreme cases, this may escalate to road rage, which is a violent criminal act involving the intention to cause physical harm.

When dealing with an aggressive driver, make sure the car’s doors are locked. If you get stopped in traffic, leave enough room to pull out from behind the car in front. If you are confronted by an aggressive driver, call 10111 or to drive to the nearest police station. Confrontation by aggressive driv-ers should not be taken personally. Instead, be polite even if the other driver is not. If another driver challenges you, take a deep breath and move out of the way. Never un-derestimate the other driver’s capacity for causing harm. Reduce your own stress by understanding that you cannot control the traffic, only your reaction to it.

In the end, a person may find that per-sonal frustration, anger and impatience are the real danger zones on the highway. Be a courteous driver and set a good example, which can help make roads safer. Motorists also need to control their anger. Do not make obscene gestures, do not tailgate and use your vehicle’s horn sparingly. Do not block the passing lane.

Socio-Economic Development - Social and Labour PlanBackground• Ivanplats’ Social and Labour Plan was approved by the Department of Mineral Resources in November 2014. In its Social and Labour Plan Ivanplats

makes commitments to its host communities with regard to the following socio-economic development issues: o Recruitment of local labour; o Procurement of local goods and services; o Development of local suppliers and enterprises; o Skills development of employees; o Skills development of people in Ivanplats host communities; o Local economic development projects.

Land Use - Surface Lease AgreementBackgroundA surface lease agreement is an agreement for the use of a specifi c area of land. The land over which Ivanplats requires a surface lease is nominally owned by Government on behalf of resident communities. Ivanplats was granted a mining right by the Department of Mineral Resources to build an underground, mechanized platinum mine in Mokopane. While the mining right automatically gives Ivanplats the right to access the land, a surface lease is benefi cial in regulating matters associated thereto such as compensation. The piece of land on which Ivanplats is building this mine, is used by the people in the adjacent communities for farming and grazing their animals. Consultations with the affected communities and the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform started in 2014, and are continuing in 2015. The communities involved in the surface lease agreement consultations are Ga-Baloyi, Ga-Matjeke, Ga-Hlongwane, Ga-Madiba, Ga-Magongoa and Ga-Kgobudi. Once the surface lease agreement has been signed by all affected communities, Ivanplats and the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, the company will commence with a Livelihood Restoration Programme to assist affected individuals to fi nd the same type of livelihood in an alternative location.

Fishing with Christie

By Christie Thomas

It seems this year that we are not going to have a long-extended winter so I would like to start sharing a couple of sure-fire spring bass fishing techniques with you.

During the early spring, when the water is still cold but daylight hours and outside temperatures are increasing, bass will start moving toward the warmer shallows. They will still be cold and sluggish and not in the mood to chase down a fast-moving crank-bait or spinnerbait. This is the time to start thinking of slow-swimming a jig!

Jigs are most often used in a pitching situation, in heavy cover, to mimic a crab or any other slow moving aquatic morsel. However, when tipped with a trailer with a bit of tail action, a swimming jig represents a slow-moving baitfish very well.

Colours – I am a fan of natural colours so, depending on the colour of the water, will select a jig in either brown, black and brown, watermelonseed, green pumpkin, pumpkin, or a combination of any of the above. These colours represent the colours of tilapia, our most dominant source of food for bass, very well. I will choose jigs in a natural white, silver or black combination to mimic the various gieliemienkies and river sardines found in our local waters.

When choosing a trailer for a swimming jig I will choose something like a Zoom swimming chunk, Yum Craw Papi, or Woolly Bullee and mix-and-match the colours;

Fishing techniques: Slow swimming a jig

brown jig with green pumpkin or watermel-onseed trailer, Silver/white jig with black trailer, etc. Study pictures of your baitfish and try to mimic their colours.

Technique – Make a long cast toward the bank, or where the bottom transitions from sand to rock, mud to gravel, gravel to scat-tered wood, etc. Allow the jig to settle to the bottom. With the rod tip held in the direction of the jig, start with a quick reel to lift the bait off the bottom and continue with a slow

steady retrieve back towards you. Vary the speed of the retrieve; a slight pause will al-low the jig to flutter down and pick up again as soon as the retrieve continues. You want to mimic the action of a baitfish moving in the water.

The secret is to keep the jig close to the bottom contour without dragging it in the mud. You want to feel the lure making contact with objects on the bottom now and then. When you do, give a slight pause

and then pop the jig over or through the obstacle. If you feel your jig dragging on the bottom just speed up your retrieve slightly. If you haven’t felt the jig on the bottom for a while, slow down your retrieve until you feel it popping off the bottom again.

Set-The-Hook – Coldwater bites are often subtle. Pay attention to what your lure is doing and what it feels like as you retrieve. If you feel a tick or any suspicious weight at the end of the line...set the hook!
