N.N. Zatsepin Celebrates 90th Birthday
In January 2007, Nikolai Nikolaevich Zatsepin, a correspondingmember of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, a winnerof the BSSR State Prize, and a renowned scientist in the area ofphysics of nondestructive testing and electromagnetic engineering,celebrated his 90th birthday.
Zatsepin served in the Great Patriotic War (19411945) andreceived a number of military orders and medals.
In 1952, Zatsepin graduated from graduate school at the Sverd-lovsk-based Institute of Metal Physics, Russian Academy of Sci-ences, having defended his candidates dissertation. Later, hedefended his doctoral dissertation. In October 1970, he wasappointed head of the Department of Physics of NondestructiveTesting, BSSR Academy of Sciences, that was later transformedunder his guidance into the Institute of Applied Physics, NationalAcademy of Sciences of Belarus.
Owing to his strong goal-oriented behavior, creative energy,extraordinary industriousness, and above all, talent as a researcher,Zatsepin achieved spectacular results: He is the author of sevenmonographs, over 300 scientific publications, and 120 inventions.Under the scientific guidance of Zatsepin, over 25 of his disciples obtained academic degrees.
