• Highest concentration in bones, liver, kidneys and
heart
• Found in the body between 12 and 20mg
• As with most trace elements, Mn is a cofactor for
many enzymes in the body
• Deficiency is rare and toxicity is typically from
excessive environmental exposure

• Increased HDL’s and decreased homocysteine levels in
men with high cholesterol levels
• Supplementation also lowered mean oxidised LDL values,
but not consistently (DiSilvestro 2012)
