TIPSIf you don’t have an
NLIS account, click the
‘Create a new account’
button on the home
page. Read the NLIS
Terms of Use, fill in the
account details form
online and submit your
details to the database.
Some users access the
database via other
software packages.
If you do this, please
consult with your
software vendor’s guide
on how to interact with
the database. In the
event that your software
becomes unavailable,
you can use the Quick
Start Guide to meet
your NLIS requirements.
To start using the NLIS Database, go to www.nlis.mla.com.auEnter your user ID and password and click the ‘Login’ button.
You will then be taken to the SDA-Light home page, where you can choose what youwould like to do.
The database may be unavailable on Thursdays between 6.00pm – 7.00pm AEST,for scheduled maintenance.
Getting startedThis Quick Start Guide will help you become familiar with the key functions available toState departments of agriculture (SDA) Light users. Once you log in to the NLIS Database,clear instructions will guide you through each task. If you require further explanation, orencounter any difficulties, click the ‘Help’ button on the screen. You can also click the‘Help tools’ button to access a tutorial.

Generating reportsSDA-Light users can access various reports to verify information about devices orproperties. There are two ways to select a report:
1. directly from the home page
2. via the ‘View/generate all reports’ option on the home page.
If the report you want is listed on the home page, select it and click ‘Go’. Otherwise,select ‘View/generate all reports’ and click ‘Go’. Select the report you want and click ‘Go’.
All you need
To request a report about a property, all you need to tell the NLIS Database is:
E the name of the report you would like to view
E how you want the report to be displayed, and
E any other details requested, for example the relevant Property IdentificationCode (PIC) or date range you want to view (the details required will depend onthe specific report).
VWhen would you do this?
To find out:
• the PIC that an
individual device is
registered to
• the transfer history
for a specified
property
• information about a
property or owner
from the national PIC
register

Beast enquiries report
This report allows you to retrieve information about an animal, such as its matchingRFID or NLIS ID, EU status, and the PIC the animal is currently registered to.
Select ‘Beast enquiries’ from the ‘Reports’ list on the home page, then click ‘Go’.
Choose the ‘Output type’. If you choose to view the report on-screen you will receive it in a few minutes. If you choose an email report, you will receive it inabout 2 hours.
Paging ‘Enabled’ displays 20 records at a time. If there are more than 20 rows in a report, multiple pages are generated. These can be accessed by clicking the‘Next page’ button. Paging ‘Disabled’ allows a user to view all records withina report.
Type or paste in a list of the NLIS ID or RFID of the animals you want to enquireabout, then click ‘Go’.
TIPSOnce the results are
displayed, you can
customise the report.
To do this, click on the
‘Column Display’
button, then select
only the fields you
want to see.
You can also choose
how to sort the
information. Clicking
on any column heading
will sort the report by
that field. For
example, to sort the
report by RFID
number, click the RFID
column heading.

Get ERP status for a tag report
This report allows you to check the Extended Residue Program (ERP) status of asingle device.
Select ‘View/generate all reports’ from the ‘Reports’ list on the home page and click‘Go’.
Select ‘Get ERP status for a tag’ as the report name.
VWhen would youdo this?If you need to check
whether an individual
animal has been on a
property with an ERP
Status, run this report.
Choose the ‘Output type’. If you choose to view the report on-screen you will receive it in a few minutes. If you choose an email report, you will receive it inabout 2 hours.
Paging ‘Enabled’ displays 20 records at a time. If there are more than 20 rows in a report, multiple pages are generated. These can be accessed by clicking the‘Next page’ button. Paging ‘Disabled’ allows a user to view all records withina report.

ADM (administration) property in and out transfers summary report
This report allows you to check the transfer history of a property, enabling you to seethe number of cattle that have moved on and off a property over a specified date range.
Select ‘View/generate all reports’ from the ‘Reports’ list on the home page and click ‘Go’.
Select ‘ADM property in and out transfers summary report’ as the report name.
VWhen would youdo this?If you need to provide a
summary of cattle
movements on a
property for a
producer, or to monitor
cattle that have moved
on and off a property,
this report allows you
to do this easily.
Choose the ‘Output type’. If you choose to view the report on-screen you will receive it in a few minutes. If you choose an email report, you will receive it inabout 2 hours.
Paging ‘Enabled’ displays 20 records at a time. If there are more than 20 rowsin a report, multiple pages are generated. These can be accessed by clicking the

Search the PIC register report
This report allows you to search a national PIC register to find or cross-checkinformation about a property anywhere in Australia.
Select ‘Search the PIC register’ from the ‘Reports’ list on the home page, and click ‘Go’.
VWhen would youdo this?If you know the PIC for
a property, searching
the PIC register
allows you to find out
the corresponding
name of the property
owner, the trading
name or location of
the property.
Choose the ‘Output type’. If you choose to view the report on-screen you will receive it in a few minutes. If you choose an email report, you will receive it inabout 2 hours.
Paging ‘Enabled’ displays 20 records at a time. If there are more than 20 rows in a report, multiple pages are generated. These can be accessed by clicking the‘Next page’ button. Paging ‘Disabled’ allows a user to view all records withina report.
Type in the PIC, or complete one or more of the other fields shown and click ‘Go’.The system will return the remaining information for the property.

Get agent cattle over 7 days report
This report allows you to retrieve a list of all devices that have been held on anAgent's PIC for more than 7 days.
Select ‘View/generate all reports’ from the home page and click ‘Go’.
Scroll down the list and select ‘Get agent cattle over 7 days’ as the report name.
VWhen would youdo this?To monitor the cattle
on Agents’ PICs and,
where required, notify
agents who have had
cattle on their PICs for
more than 7 days that
they need to move
cattle to the correct
destination.
Choose the ‘Output type’. If you choose to view the report on-screen you will receive it in a few minutes. If you choose an email report, you will receive it inabout 2 hours.
