From the
We're delighted to welcome 299 new freshmen, 62 new continuing students, and all of our returning students to another great year at the Calhoun Honors College!
Our most exciting news is that we're getting a new building! The Honors College will be a key part of the new Core Campus project,
which will be built on the grassy area in front of the smokestacks be-tween Holmes Hall and the fraternity/sorority quad. Scheduled to open in Fall 2016, the new Honors Center will include new Honors res-idence halls; office space for Honors, the
National Scholars Program, and the Office of Major Fellowships; and expanded Holmes-basement type space containing classrooms, meeting spaces, study rooms, and much more. Construction will begin within the next few weeks, but you probably won't see much built above ground until January 2015.
Perhaps a little bit less exciting but of more short-term significance is our new electronic program for the New York Times. Starting within the next week or two, all Honors students will have free ac-cess to the Times on their smart phones, tablets, and computers (we'll no longer be receiving paper copies). Look for more news soon on this great new way to keep up with events across the coun-
try and around the world. Dr. Lasser
