The project began with a study of minimalist artist Fred Sandback, who implied and suggested volumes using only the minute mass of yarn as his medium. Lines, then, begin to suggest space and create volumes without enclosure. This approach to solid and void was used to drive the design of an elementary school, where spaces and programs are suggested but not prescribed, allowing for flexibility and visual connectivity.

In order to address the prejudices surrounding mixed income housing this project plays with the idea that low-income households benefit from the taxes paid by those who are wealthier. Here, the luxury wing of the building started off as a parasitic form which engulfs and appropriates the space originally belonging to the affordable housing wing. This space, then, becomes a service space which allows more square footage for luxury housing. However, the luxury wing also gives back by offering amenity space and providing opportunities for interaction and creates potential jobs for residents through a food program.

Concept development for a supermarket proposal in Miami, FL. The proposal intends to mediate between the predominantly Latin neighbour-hood of Little Havana and the high-rise neighbouring Brickell area while responding to a flood-sensitive and site and Miami’s hurricane season. Programatically, the solution is to weave and integrate food retail and food entertainment with outdoor public space. Furthermore, the resulting building (diagrammatic at this stage) is meant to channel westerly winds for natural ventilation while mitigating eastern hurricane winds.

A module was folded and combined both manually and using a digital script in order to explore the architectural possibilities of aggregation. A program developed from a deep study of the demographics as well as social and health needs of the Red Hook neighbourhood in Brooklyn was then used to control the size and arrangement of the combinatorial.

Based on Calatrava’s Wettstein Bridge, this project focused on joint systems and their kinematic properties. A bridge section was designed and then multiplied to create a system that could be infinitely repeated. An animation was created that explored the full range of motion, both of the individual bridge section and the entire system.

A lighting device was created using parametric modeling systems to explore the combinatorial possibility of scripts. The resulting object was rendered as a lighting device and animated to study the rendering and representation of light.
