Her iconography is close to GoddessKali as opposedto the same of Goddess Saraswati in the Vedas. Other popularforms ofGodess Tara are Tarini and Ugra-Tara.Devi Nilasaraswati is the Ishta-devi of sage Vashista. It is wellknown inthe society of tantra practitioners that she puts her worshippertoextreme challenges before really granting siddhi. For example,sage Vashistahimself was plucked o several times in this sadhana despiteperformingextreme austerities for many many years. As a result the sagedid put acurse on Tara-mantra. The success of Brahmananda Giri (ofDigamvaritalaBangladesh, the Parapara guru of Krishnananda Agamvagisha)in this sadhanais a story worth knowing. In the recent past, she wasworshippedbyVamdeva or Bamakhyapa (the crazy Bama), the Bhairava ofTarapith on the

3same pancha-mundi-asan (the seat of ve skulls) below theShalmali tree(known as Mundamalinitala) where sage Vashista is supposedto haveperfomed his sadhana.Amongst the several boons Nilasaraswati grants are poesy andeloquence.Moreover, she grants vaksiddhi for free or resides in thetounge of theworshipper, and, this is the precise reason that explains hername.Brihannila Tantra is a source to know more of her.
