Dear B ro th er H a ro ld :

Marcia said she would t ry to write you

    i f

    she f e l t up to but

    perhaps

    i t

    is

    important

    4>nough

    for

both of us to write. The

    following

    paragraph is a

    quote

from le t ters I am sending

    ouf to those

    who have

    inquired:

    We have received

    some reprocussions

from the announcement in th e

    August HORIZONI

    about our lack of finances

    and

    justly so.

    Somewhere

    t rue conditions were exagerated. I t i s

    true

    tha t in

    April

    and May

    we did

    have

    a

    d i f f i cu l t

t ime because offer ings did not come

    in

    time

    to meet

    some

    responsibi l i t ies and there

    was no

    reserve to fa l l

    back

    on.

    However we

    did

    not se l l any

    furniture.

    (This

    statement

    was made

    in

    some

    let ters not

    in

    HORIZONS By

    July offer ings had come

    in

    so we

    could

    make our

    t r ip

    to Hokkaido

    from

    personal fu nd s.

    Also there

    are

    only 5 native workers,

    instead

    of.24,

    who

    are wholly or partial ly

    dependent

    on

    us for

    support.

    hope

    this diacrepency will

    not

    hurt

    your t rust in

    Brother MacFarlani or

    in

    HORIZONS

    He

    is

    doing

    a diff icul t

    job and deserves our whole

    hearted

    support.

    Perhaps you have

    alredy

    been asked

    as the

    Coles

    have, what

    is

    the

    oiatter with

    th i s

    bunch over here

    to

    l e t

    a

    family

    go

    hgngry. were

far from going hungry. did sel l some personal

    things

    to try to build

    up a

    reserve.

    The reprocussions

    also

caused my ar t ic le in

    This

    las t paragraph

sounds l ike I'm sore but

    I don' t want

    i t that

    way.

    You

did what you thought was right. Because Marcia

    doesn't

    keep

    copies

    of

    le t ters she

    sends

    you, I don't

    know

    what she

    wrote.

    I t

    no

    now.

    Whatever

    damage

    there

    was

    i s

    done.

    I wri te

    th is to

    you

    only to t e l l

    you

    personally how

    I

    feel .

    As

    far as

    I am

    concerned

    no

    public statement need

    be made

about th e ma tte r.

    Three weeks ago Marcia made

    an

    appointment in the

    Air

    Force hospi ta l

in Nagoya for a physical examination. She has been in Nagoya since,

    part

    of the t ime in

    the

    hosp i ta l and the r e s t of

    the

    t ime a t

    the

    Davisee.

    The day

    she

    went to

    see

    the doctor

    her eyes

    and flesh became a definite

    yellow

    color. Though some tests were

    negative they have

    longer

    she

    will be in Nagoya.

    In

the meantime th e child ren and I are

    The

    Seminary opened i t /sral l

    September

    Rally.

    The

    students

gave reports o f t he ir a c ti vi ti es during Ju ly and August. I t

    was

    helpful to

    them

    to note

    tha t while

    they

    spent much time

    holding

    services , with atfcendances

averaging more than 100, yet there was a

    very small percentage of baptisms

    54

    in a l l

    the work from Nagoya

    to

    Ifenoya.

    Mr.

    Clark pointed out

    to

    them

    there was not

    enough

    time spent

    in

    personal

    evangel ism. There

    was

    a n a vera ge

    of

    lees

    than 1

    ca l l

    per

day. A good note is that the students came back resolved to study hard

to better prepare themselves to serve the Christ . There are

    16 students

    in the

    day classes of

    OBS

    and 7
