For my Capstone Project I designed an experimental race car that embodies the spiritof the American drive, using the latest technology and influenced by the legendary racecar, the Ford GT.

In the spring of 1963 Ford received word that a certain famous European car company was up for sale (Ferrari). Henry Ford II was enthralled with this and told his staff to go to Europe andeal or don’t come back at all. Ford and Ferrari were in the late stages of a deal to acquire Ferrari when Enzo Ferrari was displeased with the terms Ford had given him. Ferrari was angewould loose control over the entire company including his baby, the racing division. Ferrari soon broke off talks with Ford.

Angered by Enzo Ferrari backing out of the deal, Henry Ford II set out a challenge to his staff to build a racing program and car to beat Ferrari at its own game (Le Mans) with money be ject. A week later Lee Iaccoca (head of the Ford Division) had a proposal in hand to set up a new special- vehicles department. Its purpose was to design and build the fastest, most rtechnologically advanced racing car in history.

Ford engineers and designers developed a car that resembled nothing ever seamed up in an American design studio before. A car just 156in long and no taller than a kitchen counter (4the car was named the Ford GT40, and was powered by a 4.7 liter (289ci) Mustang engine.

Unfortunately when the car was entered in the 1964 Le Mans the car failed to finish. After the poor finish Ford II decided to relieve Wyer of his duties and put the program in the handShelby. Unfortunately the next year the cars fared the same and not a single one finished the race.

In 1966 with the experience gained form the previous two year Shelby ordered that the cars be outfitted with ever bigger 7 liter (427ci) engines. The larger engines were under less stressthe whole race. That year Ford won Le Mans with a 1-2-3 Finish. Ford would go on to win the next 3 Le Mans races.

What doe it mean to be an Icon?To break to mold, and challenge the status quo. It’s in our DNA to fight back andkeep moving forward.

To show the world that America is still a pioneer we need find an icon of renew-

able energy, Liquid Nitrogen.

Nick DeConzo nick.deconzo@gm

Why Liquid Nitrogen?Liquid nitrogen is a by product of the production of liquid oxygen. When produced there is a 4:1 ratio of

liquid nitrogen to liquid oxygen. When heated to ambient temperature, liquid nitrogen expands 700 times

in volume, making it perfect for being a non flammable propellant.

Cold Turbine

The liquid nitrogen is heated and them passed thought a “cold turbine. This cold turbine acts like a windturbine and produces electricity when air pressure moves the blades turning a generator.

In order to keep the liquid nitrogen at a slower evaporation rate, the c

needs to have a fairly large heat sink to keep heat away from the LN2 tan

MXe Interior

This driver inspired interior concept was developed not only to include the technology

of the battery power but also to retain the authentic personality of muscle cars, opentop roadsters and the thrill of driving. Using elements that guide your eye towards thedrivers “cockpit” and up towards the single gauge, this gives the driver the feeing thatthey are driving a car with a “soul” and not another appliance with wheels.

Not another appliance on wheels

Mono GaugeA single gauge wrapped in a ring of billet alu-minum that displays everything that is vital to

the driver, Keeping all of the vital informationon one screen allows the driver to look at one

screen instead of multiple screens across the

interior.

Flowing Design ElementsThe main design elements flow towards the driver “cockpit”and focus your attention towards the single gauge. These

design elements stand out from the mono tones of the in-

terior with a splash of a vibrant red. These elements drawyour eye towards the single gauge.

Projects

These are designs that I worked on during my three internships at Cuisinart. I recieved a

patent for the Dual Purpose Peeler which is currently in production. The other designsare concepts that may or may not be used by Cuisinart.

Dual Purpose PeelerThe Dual Purpose Peeler was designed to have two peel-

The Dual Purpose Peeler was designed to have two peeling blades. A straight blade for regular peeling and a ju-

lienne blade for julienning carrots, cucumbers and othervegetables. The Dual Peeler was also designed for easier

use and comfort in the hand.

This Project was done under a limited amount of time dur-

ring one afternoon.

The Dual Purpose Peeler was designed to

fit with the existing line of Cuisinart tools.

The Pizza Wheel concept was designed specifically to pre-vent a persons hand from slipping and possibly being in-

jured. The ridge above the blade keeps the persons finger

in place. The pizza wheel cover completes the simplisticdesign and keeps the blade clean and free from damage.

Holiday SpatulasDesigned the specific holiday graphic for eash holiday.
