Logging In the U2000 Client
Log in the U2000 client to manage NEs by performing management operations onthe U2000 client.
Prerequisites
Before logging in the U2000 client, ensure that the following conditions are met:
The U2000 server is started.
The network communication between the U2000 client and U2000 server
is available.
The network communication between the U2000 server and GNE is
available.
The ports used between the U2000 client and U2000 server are not
blocked by the firewall.
The IP address of the client must be contained in the access control list
(ACL) that is configured on the U2000 server. The default ACL range is the
entire network segment. It is recommended that you set the ACL restriction
range based on the security requirements.
Legitimate U2000 user names and passwords have been allocated.
U2000 licenses have been correctly loaded to the server.

The OptiX OSN 9800 supports master-slave subrack management, which unifies the
management of multi-shelf NEs. The master-slave subrack mode saves IP resources and
displays multiple subracks as one NE on the iManager U2000.
The master subrack needs to be created and the slave subracks will be identified through
the master subrack.
The following Master-Slave subrack mode is available:
OptiX OSN 9800 U64 and OptiX OSN 9800 U64 subrack
OptiX OSN 9800 U32 and OptiX OSN 9800 U32 subrack
OptiX OSN 9800 U64 and OptiX OSN 9800 U32 subrack
The Master-Slave subrack mode is not available to OptiX OSN 9800 U64/U32 and OptiX
OSN 8800 T16 / OptiX OSN 6800.
Planning Principles of Master-Slave subrack mode for OptiX OSN 9800 U64/U32:
1+1 redundancy for the CTU board is recommended for the subrack.
The CTU boards in the master subrack and each slave subrack must be the same
software version.
The hub mode (in which one subrack functions as an NE) cannot be upgraded to
the master-slave mode without service interruption.
A slave subrack cannot be upgraded to the master subrack without service
interruption.

The OptiX OSN 9800 series equipments do not support the pre-configuration.
Procedure on the U2000: Step 1 Right-click in the blank space of the Main Topologyand choose New>
NE...from the shortcut menu. The Create NEdialog box is displayed.
Step 2 Select required NE from tree structure at left hand pane.
Step 3 Complete the following information: ID, Extended ID, Nameand
Remarks.
Step 4 To create a GNE, proceed to Step 5. To create a non-gateway NE, proceed
to Step 6.
Step 5 Select Gateway from the Gateway Type drop-down list and set the IP
address.
Step 6 Select Non-Gateway from the Gateway Type drop-down list. Select the
GNE to which the NE is associated to from the Gateway drop-down list.
Step 7 In the case of WDM NE, Select the optical NE to which the WDM NE is
associated from theAssociated ONE drop-down list.
Step 8 Enter the NE User and Password.
Step 9 Click OK, the cursor is displayed as "+", click on the blank space of the
physical view and the NE is created.

When the U2000 communicates properly with a GNE, you can search for all NEs that communicate with
the GNE by using the IP address of the GNE or the network segment to which the IP address is
associated. Then, you can create NEs in batches. This method is quicker and more accurate than manual
creation. Therefore, the method of creating NEs in batches is recommended.
Procedure on the U2000:
Step 1 Choose File> Discovery> NE...from the Main Menu. The NE Discoverywindow is
displayed.
Step 2 Select the Transport NE Searchtab. Sets the Search Modeas Search for NE.
Step 3 In the Search Domaindialog box, there is a default search domain. If default search
domain is incorrect, clickAddand the Input Search Domaindialog box is displayed.
Step 4 SetAddress typeto IP Address Range of GNE, IP Address of GNE, or NSAP
Address, and enter Search Address, User Name, and Password. Then, click OK.
Step 5 In the Search for NEdialog box, you can perform the following operations:
a. Select Search for NEand click Start Searchto search for all NEs in the selected
domain.
b. Select Create NE after search, and enter NE userand Password. Then, click Start
Search.
c. Optional: Select Upload after createand click Start Search, so that the NE data can
be uploaded to the U2000 after the NE is created.
Step 6 Click Start Search, switch to theAuto Discoveryinterface. Step 7 Optional: If you select Search for NEonly, you can select the NEs, which are not yet
created, in the Resultlist after the search for NEs is complete. Click Createand then the
Createdialog box is displayed. Enter User Nameand Passwordin the Createdialog box, and
then click OK.

The OptiX OSN 9800 product series include the OptiX OSN 9800 U64 and OptiX OSN
9800 U32. Applied at the electrical layer, the product series share boards by using unified
software and hardware platforms and can work with the OptiX OSN 8800 T16 and OptiX
OSN 6800 optical subracks in WDM and OTN systems.
The U2000 allocates the WDM equipment into different optical NEs for management. That
is to say, there are electrical subracks (for example, OSN 9800 U64/U32) and optical
subracks (for example, OSN 8800 T16/OSN 6800) in an optical NE. There are four types of
optical NEs. They are WDM_OADM, WDM_OEQ, WDM_OLA and WDM_OTM.
The ONE here can also be viewed as WDM station.
Procedure on the U2000: Step 1 Right-click in the blank space of the Main Topology and choose New>
NE...from the shortcut menu.
Step 2 Select the optical NE type for the optical NE in theAdd Objectdialog box.
Step 3 In the Basic Attributestab, set the attributes of the optical NE.

Procedure on the U2000:
Step 4 Click the Resource Division tab. Select NEs or boards from the IdleOptical NE.
Step 5 Click OK.
Step 6 Click in the blank space of the Main Topology and the ONE icon appears
in the position where you clicked.
To re-allocate the resources of an optical NE that has been created, right-click the optical
NE and choose Object Attribute. Click the Resource Divisiontab, select an NE or a
board from the list on the left, and then click the double-right-arrow button to allocate the
NE or board to the optical NE.

To ensure NE data security, only the users with NE user authority can log in to the NEs. An
NE user is able to perform operations on the NEs according to the assigned authority. The
U2000 administrator is advised to create NE users before configuring services. The default
NE user has the monitor level authority. To ensure NE data security, it is recommended that
you assign NE users with different authorities as required.
Procedure on the U2000:
Step 1 ChooseAdministration> NE Security Management> NE User
Managementfrom the Main Menu.
Step 2 In the NE list on the left, select an NE.
Step 3 ClickAdd and theAdd NE User dialog box is displayed. Step 4 Enter the NE user name in the NE User field.
Step 5 Select the User Level as needed.
Step 6 In the NE User Flag field, select a user type according to the type of the
terminal through which the user logs in to the NE.
Step 7 Enter the password in the New Password field and enter it again in the
Confirm Password field.
Step 8 In the NE Name field, select the NEs that this NE user is allowed to
manage.
Step 9 Click OK.

During a new deployment, after the root NE user creates the NE, this user can create
another NE user. You can log in to the NE with the new NE user name.
An NE user cannot log in to or manage an NE at the same time. After you use an NE user
to log in to an NE through a U2000 server, if you use the same NE user to log in to the
same NE through another U2000 server, the NE user is forced to log out from the first
U2000 server.
Procedure on the U2000:
Step 1 In the Main Topologyview, chooseAdministration> NE Security
Management> NE Login Managementfrom the Main Menu.
Step 2 Select an NE from the NE list to switch its user. Step 3 Click Query to query the current NE user.
Step 4 In the NE Login Management Table, select the NE and click Switch NE
User. In the Switch Current NE User dialog box, enter the User and Password,
and set Offline Switching. If Offline Switchingis selected, the system does not
check the user name and password, and thus later login of the NE may fail, which
causes the NE unreachable by the NMS. Therefore, it is recommended not to select
Offline Switching.
Step 5 Click OK.

Procedure on the U2000:
Step 1 Select the NE whose data you want to configure. Step 2 Choose Manual Configuration and click Next. The Confirm dialog box is
displayed indicating that manual configuration clears the data on the NE side.
Step 3 Click OK. The Confirm dialog box is displayed indicating that manual
configuration interrupts the service on the NE.

The master and slave subracks can be queried at the same time without extra operation.
The Slot IDs: The slot IDs of the master subrack are numbered from 1 and increased by degrees.
The slot IDs of slave subracks are of three digital. The hundred digital is the number
of the slave subrack. For example, "103" stands for the slot 3 in the slave subrack 1.
Procedure on the U2000:
Step 4 Click OK. The Set NE Attribute dialog box is displayed.
Step 5 Set NE Name, Equipment Type, NE Remarks and Subrack Type and
then click Next. The NE slot window is displayed.
Step 6 Optional: Click Query Logical Information to query the logical boards of
the NE.
Step 7 Optional: Click Query Physical Information to query the physical boards
of the NE.
Step 8 Right-click on the slot to add a board. Click Next to display the Send
Configuration window.
Step 9 ChooseVerify and Run as required and click Finish.

An OptiX OSN 9800 U64/U32 subrack is supplied by a power supply pool comprising PIU boards.
Based on the physical power supply configuration, a user can configure a visual power supply pool
and manage power consumption using an emulation NE Panel. Short-circuit relationships between PIU boards can be set when a subrack is powered on for the first
time and cannot be modified after the subrack is properly working. Short-circuit relationships cannot
be modified before the subrack is powered off.
For a newly added board, if the total power consumption of the power supply section where the
new board is located is beyond the power supply capability, the board will not be powered on and
no logical board or services can be created for the board.
Procedure on the U2000:
Step 1 On the U2000, set the short-circuit relationship between PIU boards to be the same
as the actual short-circuit mode.
Select a PIU board. The target PIU boards that can be short-circuited with theselected board are displayed.
Click the dot above a PIU board. The dot indicates that a short-circuit relationship
can be set between the board and the selected board.
ClickApply.
Step 2 Set the input current.
Click the red triangle in the current display box (green). The input current options
are displayed.
Select a current. The current of each power supply can be set to 0 A, 63 A, 100 A,
or 120 A. 100 A and 120 A are available only for short-circuited PIU boards and 0
A is available only for PIU boards that are not short-circuited.
ClickApply.

Procedure on the U2000:
Step 1 Select the NE whose data you want to upload. Step 2 Choose Upload and click Next. The Confirm dialog box is displayed
indicating that the upload may take a long time.
Step 3 Click OK to start the upload. The Operation Result dialog box is displayed
when the uploading is completed.
Step 4 Click Close.

OptiX OSN 9800 can also configure slave subracks they will exist automatically in NMS
when you configure the subrack NE.
In the master/slave subrack mode, the master subrack and its multiple slave subracks are
displayed as one NE in the network management system. They share the same NE ID and
IP address.
Procedure on the U2000:
Step 1From the upper side of the slot layout in the right pane. Right-click the
subrack and then chooseAdd Slave Shelf from the shortcut menu to display the
Add Subrack dialog box.
Step 2In theAdd Subrack dialog box, input the basic attribute of the slave shelfincluding the Shelf ID and Shelf Name. Select the Shelf Type from the drop-
down list.

The logical and physical wavelengths of a board must be the same; otherwise, services may be
unavailable.
Procedure on the U2000:
Step 1 In the NE Explorer, select the desired board. Choose Configuration> WDM
Interfacefrom the Function Tree.
Step 2 In theAdvanced Attributestab, select the desiered port.
Step 3 Double-click the Planned Band Typefields and select the required band type.
Step 4 Double-click the Planned Wavelength No./Wavelength (nm)/Frequency (THz),
set the wavelength No, wavelength and Frequency of the board.
Step 5 ClickApply. A dialog box is displayed for confirming the modification, click OK.
Step 6 Another dialog box is displayed for reconfirming the modification, click OK.
FEC types of two connected boards must be the same. Services may be interrupted when the FEC
types of two interconnected boards are not the same. To ensure normal services, correctly set the
FEC type for two interconnected boards.
Procedure on the U2000:
Step 1 In the NE Explorer, select the desired board. In the Function Tree, choose
Configuration> WDM Interface.
Step 2 Click By Board/Port(Channel)and select Channelfrom the drop-down list.
Step 3 Click theAdvanced Attributestab. Double-click FEC Modeof the desired optical
port and select the FEC type.
Step 4 ClickApply. A dialog box is displayed for confirming the modification, click OK.

Creating Fibers in the Synchronization Mode
After the equipment commissioning is completed, the fiber connections might existon the NE. You can synchronize on the U2000 the internal fiber connection data of
the NE with the U2000 side.
Creating Fiber Connections in Graphic Mode
In graphic mode, you can create fiber connections on the Main Topologyor the
Signal Flow Diagramdirectly. This mode is applicable to scenarios where a small
number of fiber connections are to be created one by one.
Creating Fiber Connections in List Mode
In Fiber/Cable Management, you can manage the fiber connections between NEsand inside NEs in a unified manner. In this case, fiber connections can be created in
an easy manner. This mode is applicable to scenarios where a large number of fiber
connections are to be created.

The fiber connections include the inter-subrack fiber connections and intra-subrack fiber
connections.
Procedure on the U2000:
Step 1 Double-click an optical NE on the Main Topology. Click the Signal Flow
Diagram tab.

U2000 is the same as the fiber data on NEs.

To do this operation, you must be an NM user with "NE and network administrator"
authority or higher.
Keeping the time consistency between the U2000 and NEs is very important for
troubleshooting and network monitoring. You should set the U2000 time and NE time
before service configuration.
Synchronizing the NE time does not affect services. Before synchronizing the NE time,
verify that the system time on the U2000 server is correct. If you want to change the
system time, exit the U2000 to reset the time, and then restart the U2000.
Procedure on the U2000:
Step 1 In the NE Explorer, select the NE. Choose Configuration > NE TimeSynchronizationfrom the Function Tree. The Resultdialog box is displayed.
Click Close.
Step 2 Right-click the NE and then choose Synchronize with NM Time. A dialog
box is displayed. ClickYes.
Step 3 The Resultdialog box is displayed. Click Close. In this manner, the NE time
is synchronized with the NMS time immediately.

By setting performance monitoring parameters of an NE properly and starting the
performance monitoring for the NE, you can obtain the detailed performance record
during the running of the NE. This facilitates the monitoring and analysis of the NE running
status performed by maintenance personnel.
Procedure on the U2000:
Step 1 Choose Performance > Set NE Performance Monitoring Time from the
Main Menu.
Step 2 Select NEs from the NE list.
Step 3 Select one or more NEs, and set 15-minute and 24-hour performance
monitor parameters according to the requirement. Step 4 ClickApply and click Close in the Operation Result dialog box.

This slide describes how to back up the latest NE (configuration) data to the NMS server or
NMS client as required in case of NE maintenance or upgrade/downgrade.
The FTP/TFTP/SFTP server is configured and the FTP/TFTP/SFTP service is started.
Using the NE Data Backup/Restoration function, we can back up the NE database to
the NMS computer. Also we can recover the NE database from the NMS computer.
Procedure on the U2000:
Step 1 In the Main Topologyview, chooseAdministration> NE Software
Management> NE Data Backup/Restorationfrom the Main Menu.
Step 2 Right click the device(s) that you want to backup in the NE Viewtable.
Step 3 Select Backup...to open the Backupdialog.
Step 4 Select the option NMS Server or NMS Client to backup the selected
device information. By default the NMS Server is selected. If the NMS Server is
selected, the selected device information is stored on the NMS server.
Step 5 Optional: If the NMS Client is selected, click to select the location
where the device data have to be backed up.
Step 6 Click Start to start the backup operation for the selected device(s). On the
NE Viewtab page, the backup progress is displayed.
Step 7 When the backup operation is successful, the NMS creates the dbf.pkgfile
in the NEName/yyyymmddhhmmss directory. "NEName" indicates the name ofthe NE, "yyyymmdd" indicates the date when the backup is created, and "hhmmss"
indicates the time when the backup is created.
