Finishing off the building I’m sure any of you who have ever built a house will understand that once the builders have left the site it can be quite difficult to get them back to fix up the list of things not quite com- plete. I am also planning, in collaboration with Neil Sivwright, School Council Chair, and two parent representatives, a risk assessment of the whole school site. Once complete I will approach the appropriate authorities (Building Management Works; Department of Educa- tion; Fremantle Council). Temporary classroom We started the year with our year 6/7’s housed in the temporary classroom with great confi- dence that we would be able to keep it for the whole year, this was however, with our fingers crossed behind our backs - there was a small chance it would be required elsewhere. I am please to inform you that I have had confirmation that we can definitely keep this classroom for at least the remainder of 2013. its placement here will be reviewed, based on our student population, for the following year. Room 1 - Lisa Miller Wow! What a fantastic start to our school journey we have had. We have met lots of new friends who we have spent our first days at Kindy learning to share and take turns with. This term we are exploring colours with the help of a patchwork elephant called Elmer. He has helped us do lots of fun things with red, blue, yellow and green. He has many more colours to show us this term. We are also looking at our numbers and shapes. Mrs Baldy has started visiting to play language games with us. We are beginning to learn about long and short words. There is always something interesting and fun to do in Kindy.

Room 2 - Liz Smith Suddenly, it’s week 4 – time really does fly when you’re having fun. In Pre-primary we’re fully involved in our topic ‘All About Me’ and the children have been exploring their five senses. Last week we took the iPads round school and photographed interesting things we noticed on our sight-walk, this week we have been exploring our sense of sound; we’ve noticed that you use more than one of your senses a lot of the time. Each week I will introduce the children to a new letter and over the week we explore the phoneme (sound) and grapheme (written form). I ask the children to develop the home/school link and be-come Alphabet Explorers; this involves bringing in items from home with the same initial sound as we are learning about that week, our Alpha bet Explorer Day will be a Thursday. This week our let-ter is A, next week it will be P.

A hearty community thanks for sharing your contain-ers, we’ve got enough to begin making some awesome models. DIARY DATE in Pre-Primary we are having a sausage sizzle fundraiser on Tuesday 12th March for the whole school – please come and see Miss Lizzie if you have any skill at all in operating a bbq. I don’t.

Room 3 - Bev Lane This week has been very hot and we all look like beetroots when we come in after playing. In health we have dis-cussed the importance of wearing hats and sunscreen and drinking lots of water. We’ve made posters to remind us. Here is Luc’s poster. It has a great picture on it and the writing is clear and easy to read. A big thank-you to all the parents who are remembering “their” homework.

Charlie, Ells S and Benjamin all busy following their paint by numbers journey with Elmer

Room 6 - Chris John Room 5 is hard at work in all areas as we begin to look at Indige-nous Australia in SOSE, research an Australian animal in Sci-ence, kick persuasive writing into gear for NAPLAN in term 2 and revise our times tables, number facts and mathematical language.

Here we can see Logan and Mitch with serious concentration working on a problem, as Sam W, Subham and Molly discuss the next step in their plan.

Emma Fox - Chinese Exchange Students The Huija students have been studying about Water for the last two weeks. We have written some wonderful poems about water and this week we wrote a report about the Nile River in Af-rica. Our poems are on display in the library if you would like to see them.

Room 4 - Rochelle Reeves Room 4 have had a productive two weeks learning all about addition and subtraction facts. We have been learning to count on and skip count in 2's. In Society and Environment we have learnt all about the Moon Festival and have made some lovely lanterns to decorate our classroom. Our Chinese students read to us about their experi-ences with the Moon Festival and how they celebrate back in China. Their English speaking is becoming very good and their writing excellent. We have written some very interesting journal entries pretending we are in China for the Moon Festival. This week we started working with Mrs Baldey on our opinions of things in our world. We are working towards writing our own persuasive text.

Room 7 - Monica Parkes/Brent Snook We have had another busy two weeks in Room 7 and are finally settling into a routine. In History this term we have been learning about Federation and have been analysing the argu-ments for and against Federation taking into account the colonies viewpoints and how they may or may not have benefited from it. We have created a timeline of important events leading up to Federation and today we started writing our scripts for our Federation Timeline performance at the week 6 assembly. We hope to see you all there!
