Temporary Resident Visas
Application includes:
• Correct fee (check website)• Valid passport for each person• 2 passport size photographs • Students: evidence of current enrollment• Workers: evidence of paid employment
(pay stubs and letter from employer)
Study Permits
• Basic requirements: • Acceptance letter & proof of funds • Medical (in some cases)
• Security & criminality screening applies• No study permit required if program less than
six months

- Co-op Work Permit (integral part of study)

Post- Study Work Permits

• Program of study was of a duration of at least eight months
• Application & valid job offer submitted within 90 days
* 2 years outside Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver (MTV)
Temporary Workers
• Applicant secures job offer
• Employer may be required to obtain approval from HRSDC office (www.hrsdc.gc.ca) - or –
Employment may fall under exemption category
(e.g. NAFTA, postdoctoral fellow, post-graduate employment, intracompany transfer, etc.)
• Work permit is employer specific (up to 3 years)

Children going to Grade 1 or above need a Study Permit. It must be applied for before entering Canada.

What is the Permanent Immigrant Process?
All immigrant applications are submitted to Buffalo Regional Processing Centre (RPC)
RPC reviews file for completeness Files transferred to partner offices
Receiving office then assumes all responsibility for the application until it is concluded
How Applications are Assessed
Federal Skilled Workers must meet the following basic requirements:
At least one year of work experience
Available, transferable funds for settlement
Medical examination
Police certificates
Skilled Worker selection grid
Factor Points
1 Age 10
2 Education 25
3 Language proficiency 24
4 Work experience 21
5 Arranged employment 10
6 Adaptability 10
Potential maximum: 100
Minimum pass mark: 67
