When faced with God's living word, the young man found himself unwilling to face the two-edged sword of the perfection (Second Reading). Still, the overarching theme is God's constant love, which overcomes even our inability to let go of wealth. Indeed, Jesus "loved" the young man and recognized his sincerity. Both the challenge of wisdom's call and the ultimate power of God's love—"All things are possible for God" (Gospel)—must resound in today's celebration. We can neither dismiss the call to poverty, a challenging message in our society, nor can we fall into the trap of believing that following Jesus is some kind of competition based on who gives up the most. The "both-and" quality of our tradition must be clear today: we are both saved by God's love and challenged to live that love "always determined to carry out good works". © 2003, 2015, OCP. World Mission Sunday: Propagation of the Faith Special Collection Next Weekend

Next weekend we will celebrate World Mission Sunday. This year we are invited to support the 1,150 of the youngest dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe. Please keep the Missions in your prayers and lease be generous in next weekend’s collection for the Society of the Propagation of the Faith.

The Gospel offers both a long and a short form today. Wisdom and wealth get contrasted today, along with the counterpoint of God's love, which rules all. You are probably familiar with the story of the rich young man, who is unable to accept Jesus' invitation to discipleship because of his wealth. He has not embraced the wisdom of the First Reading: "[I] deemed riches nothing in com-parison with [wisdom]." When faced with God's living word, the young man found himself unwilling to face the two-edged sword of the perfection (Second Reading). Let Your Parish Be There For You

Communion for Sick and Homebound Parishioners Please call the parish offices if you would like to receive Communion –we will make the arrangements with the Eucharistic Ministers to the Sick. Anointing of the Sick Please notify the parish office as early as possible for the Anointing of the Sick, the sacrament intended for the seriously ill or dying. It is Our Lord’s special presence and companionship in serious time of need. Anointing may take place in the home, at the hospital or elsewhere, and as often as once a month. If someone should die without anointing, remember that the desire to receive is sufficient and the Lord cares! If You Should Experience the Loss of a Loved One Please call the parish offices. If you feel you will be in need, or your loved one has passed, our Bereavement Min-isters will assist in making arrangements with your chosen funeral directors and offer you helpful guidelines that will aid in the Liturgical planning of the Mass or Memorial Ser-vice. We know that this can be a tough time and we want you to know that your parish is there for you.

St. James Holy Redeemer

School Mission

St. James Elementary and Holy Redeemer Middle School provide excellence in Catholic education, welcoming families from all backgrounds and embracing cultural diversity. We collaborate with parents in the formation of their child’s reli-gious, academic, physical, and creative education. Recogniz-ing the dignity and uniqueness of each student, our staff de-velops curricular programs and instructional activities that address the various learning styles of our students. St. James Elementary and Holy Redeemer Middle School promote in each child the skills necessary for life as a productive follower of Jesus Christ.

Philosophy St. James Elementary and Holy Redeemer Middle School form a family centered community based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. We recognize parents as the primary educators of their children and teachers as facilitators in the process of learning. We develop in each student a personal relationship with God and each other in a commitment to our Catholic faith through service and worship.

When secrets become dangerous There is no better time of year to review the important family rules that help to keep all children safe. It takes just a few moments to review with your children what to do in an emergency, who the special and safe adults in their life are, and the importance of not keeping secrets. Some secrets, like a gift for a special occasion, can be fun and safe to keep. Secrets that hurt others, involve any kind of unsafe or inappropriate touching or anything that bothers a child – are secrets that are NOT safe to keep. Help your child

understand the difference. For a copy of the VIRTUS® article “Back to School: Secrets,” email: [email protected].
