"Today's globalized world is stitched together with electronic networks that share and distribute information in near real-time to all points on the compass. These networks have become global utilities routinely used by government, civilian, and commercial entities for daily business transactions, communication, data sharing and myriad other uses...…….academics, defense contractors and military professionals to discuss emerging operational requirements and begin developing timely and innovative technical solutions to achieve balance between openness and security to keep our command and control systems operationally responsive and reliably accessible in times of crisis. ……strong relationships with NATO members and other regional partners-relationships that make us collectively better prepared for future military operations...“

ICT* modernization in defense is facing a double-edged sword
Provide advancednetwork enabledcapabilitiesfor successful missions of 28allied NATO nations

*) ICT: Information and Communication Technology
In today's world governments and defence/security organisations constantly face new challenges. In addition to traditional defence, security and peace keeping tasks, modern forces have a mission to keep democratic societies safe against the threat of globally acting terror organisations. Information and Communications is a fundamental prerequisite tool in order to fulfil their mission. The ongoing process is to collect, access, process, store and rapidly disseminate critical information in support of political and military decision making, and in support of conducting joint, land, air and maritime operations.
Militaries and security organisations aim constantly to stay ahead with key technological evolutions. This a necessary advantage in their efforts to maintain superiority against opponents using modern communication devices and services. So the challenge of ICT units is to balance the opportunities of speed and accessibility of network-enabled capabilities whilst managing the security aspects that new technologies present - in parallel to reduce costs in the face of low budgets.

Mil NGN: True converged and vendor-independent network topology for voice, video and data over IP
Our Solution:
For the most advanced military organizations, that own or manage dedicated carrier-class voice and data networks, it has been proven that the right approach is to migrate existing legacy infrastructures to an efficient, integrated and converged (everything-over-IP) network environment.
Such a Future Proof structure is mandatory to lay the foundation for an effective, secure network-enabled environment delivering essential information and communications services.
Nokia Siemens Networks offers highly reliable, yet affordable Commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) products that are integrated into an IP-based defence/security ICT architecture –fully prepared for future oriented everything-over-IP capabilities. Security and reliability are ensured by specific enhancements in parallel with reducing system complexity for ease of implementation and management. Reducing complexity is essential on the needed path to simplified user-friendliness both for the network operator and end-users of advanced voice, data and video services.

Advanced capabilities for a multitude of special purpose phones, terminals and modules
Real-time callprioritizationfor nominatedpersonnel
Full connectivitywith allied forces
Legacy & IP-basedservices deployedin parallel
From strategicto tactical level
Certified interoperability by tough testers
Fixed Mobile Convergence
A notable example is Priority Call Handling, a feature which enables commanders to prioritize connections of their forces in times when shared network resources are in high demand. Another example is fully integrated Unified Communication capabilities (voice, video and multimedia messaging) that further contributes to a high productivity network-enabled environment.
