Next generation mobile communications system (5G)
Introduction to DOCOMO activities toward 5G
NTT DOCOMO proposes a future concept for the next generation mobile communications system (5G). Ongoing 5G experimental trials within DOCOMO and with world-wide vendors, efforts to the 5G Trial Sites and creation of new services using 5G with partner companies from various industries are also introduced.
Features ■ 5G provides a unified platform as a service enabler of new
communication such as augmented reality (AR) and tactile internet as well as a platform for IoT
■ 5G provides higher system capacity (1000x) & higher data rate (100x) than LTE
■ High system performance by communication of broader system bandwidth, network densification and exploitation of high frequency bands
■ Possible to provide rich content services (e.g., 4K video streaming) and advanced cloud services even in a highly dense traffic area
Application Scenarios ■ 5G is expected to provide stress-free mobile broadband
communication services even in heavily crowded traffic area such as train station at the center of a city or stadium
■ It is also expected to provide massive connectivity for IoT devices with wide connection coverage
■ Provision of ultra high reliable connection for application of mission critical operations; e.g., automatic driving, telemedicine, etc.
■ Stable Internet access regardless of places (e.g., urban or rural area)
