Thought for the day—”Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what

makes you come alive and go do that, because what the world needs is people who

have come alive”! This is a quote from the printed program of the Scholarship

Awards Convocation held 7 PM at the Kingswood Arts Center June 6, 2013

Since last we wrote our club has been busy conducting the Annual Rotary Golf Tour-

nament at the Kingswood Club May 20 and our Annual Potluck & BBQ held at Camp

Belknap May 22nd. In lieu of these events and the observance Memorial Day no for-

mal meetings were held until Monday June 3rd, 5:30 PM at the Wolfeboro Inn, our

new meeting time and day.

The threatening weather tournament day, did not deter the enthusiasm of 24 teams of

four—men and women golfers, which in the end turned out to be a good time for all

participants. George Pacheco Chair of the event was pleased with the result. His ef-

forts along with those Rotarians who supported and helped run the event can be proud

in knowing their efforts and the net proceeds enable Rotary to continue its charitable

goals. Thank you Rotarians for your time and Special Prize Certificates donations.

Our Annual Potluck & BBQ at Camp Belknap the evening of May 22, was attended

by about 80 Rotarians, their spouses and guests. As usual the generous potluck assort-

ment of hot/cold side dishes and desserts was awesome—a nice supplement to the

charcoal cooked steaks and marinated chicken breasts. Louise Gehman had the win-

ning ticket for the sizable Basket of Cheer, the proceeds of which go towards a gift to

the camp for hosting our event. Honored at the event and given Paul Harris Fellow

awards for their outstanding contributions to our community were Officer Chris Kea-

ton of the Wolfeboro Police and Jack Robertson, retiring Superintendent of the Gover-

nor Wentworth Regional School District. Cont’d see page 2

Pg 1 cont’d Bob Simoneau, Rotarian for over 26 years is moving with his wife Maureen to Flor-

ida. Bob is also retiring from Brewster Academy after as many years as a director, administrator

and teacher. During all those years he was a Positive and Driving force in both organizations. John

Morgan presented Bob with a gift from Rotary along with all our well wishes as he and wife Maureen

embark on a new chapter of their lives. Thank you Bob for all you have done for our community.

After the awards we were treated to an informative and visual presentation on Loons of Lake Winnie

and the preservation of their habitat.

Our 1st evening meeting of June 3rd was well attended . The great salad and tasty sandwiches

seemed to be ample to quench the hunger of most of us, before our meeting started. Jim Hulm led us

in song, Jane Milligan read our prayer and Don Smith did the honors with the Pledge and Four Way

Test. David Allessandroni won the draw—glad you could make the meeting David! Jim McCabe is

back spending his 20th year with Rotary here in Wolfeboro. Jim Libby presented John Peterson with

a Paul Harris Fellow Award for his years of dedicated effort as The Rotary Reader Chair Person.

Cont’d from page 2 Robert Pierpont spoke of his success with folks in Washington , DC for his endeavor to

improve the habitats of local folks less fortunate. I am sure we will hear more in the near future. Next up, mem-

bers of the NH Boat Museum spoke of the many fund raising events —coming June 21 is their Golf Outing at

Kingswood Golf Club contact Mal Cook if you’d like to join up. They have over 15 events coming up this summer

designed for family enjoyment. Of special interest is the Adult and Family Boat Building program held during

July and August. Another event of interest is the Wolfeboro Vintage Race Boat Regatta Sept 13-14-60 vintage

boats of several classes will participate. An last but not least “Ride The Millie B” see Lake Winnipesaukee up

close on a vintage boat ride. Check out the entire schedule on their web site [email protected] or call 569

June 6th found members of the Rotary Scholarship Committee Mal Cook, John Peterson and David Skarnulis

( Don Smith could not attend) at the Kingswood Arts Center for the Scholarship Awards Presentations the evening

of June 6—10 scholarship grants were handed out to qualifying students . Two of the students graduated from the

Vocational Tech and will pursue careers in landscaping. KT Power Equipment supplemented our grants enhancing

our grant to help them get started. Thank you Thomas and Tracy Trites. One student from Brewster Academy was

also awarded a grant in a separate ceremony for a total of eleven scholarship grants this year. Over the last 13

years Rotary Club of Wolfeboro has given $110,000 to deserving students.
