A local Tesco will be built on The Fordrough to replace the old pub called ‘The Fordrough pub’. The former pub was shut down from because of various violent crimes committed. Local resident Johanna Pryce thinks that a new Tesco could be beneficial to the area, as it could attract more local shoppers, for an eco-

nomic boost, in the area. She also thinks that it also could lay some strain off some of the local shops such as the Co-operative, as they seem to be far too busy. However will Tesco become too much of a competitor in the area and steal all the business or not really have an effect on the current local shops, only time can tell.

I also asked if she thought that the pub could have been replaced by another social area, however she thought that we already have a social centre with activities and that the new Tesco will fit in nicely where the former Fordrough pub was situated. Also the new Tesco should benefit from the location it is taking because it is on a main

2 FUTURE FOR YOUTH OF LONGBRIDGE!There is discussion of plans for a brand new multi-million pound youth centre, situated in the heart of Longbridge. It is anticipated that this centre will deliver “innovative and much needed services to 14-19 year olds in the Longbridge area”. As a lot of people will already know there is a lack of facilities in the area for the teens of Longbridge. At the present mo-ment within Longbridge there are no youth centres within the area, this is hoped to bring a number of different aca-demic facilities such as;

multi-functional rooms, performing arts space, theatre, an ICT suite, media centre, workshop area, café and garden plus many more facili-ties of benefit. This should supply the youth of Longbridge with the academic services they all deserve and give them the chance to participate in a number of different activities. It is said by the senior developer surveyor Mike Murray that this should contribute to the Longbridge regen-eration plan by helping Longbridge develop fur-ther in “social, cultural and economic improve-ment”. GANGSTER GRAFFITTI The locals of Kings Norton are outraged at the graffiti that has been happening in the surrounding areas lately. There has been graffiti around West Heath Park in the children’s areas; this is when we need to ask our-selves what type of message does this send out to the younger children that they should start doing graffiti. It has been suggested harsher punishments for graffiti; such as make the culprit clean off the graffiti they have done. Some locals said it makes the area look run down and not a nice place, when in reality it is quite nice we just need to start combating the problem sooner rather than later.

BO TASKINGS NORTON GOES GREEN

Around the Kings Norton area there has been instal-ment of solar panels on the top of houses, There has been a lot on subject of climate change lately and now we are start-ing to fight it, saving elec-tricity heating our water via the solar panels is the way forward, for everyone. With all the contributory factors we are making to help combat climate change England will become a much more eco-friendly place to live. With all the new energy saving houses being built, solar panels being imple-mented England will cut carbon emissions by a lot and we would be helping to make the world a better place.
