President’s Message

Welcome aboard Kath on becoming a member of the

Management Committee. Kath volunteered at the General

Meeting to fill one of the casual vacancies on the Management

Committee until elections of a new Management Committee is

held at the AGM in March 2020.

The increase of 2020 Membership fees by $10, effective from

1 October 2019 when we take 2020 registrations, was approved

at the General Meeting, together with an automatic increase in

accordance with the minimum CPI figure at the end of

September of each year, rounded up or down to the nearest

dollar. This CPI increase will apply to New and Renewal annual

registrations and Semester 2 New registrations.

As we are heading towards the end of 2019, we will be asking for volunteers to help finish the painting at Margaret Street which is anticipated to be done in the first week of when we close down. So, my friendly members in Margaret Street, get ready for this big ask - won't be long before you hear - you can see the difference it has made to the lower level.

because you have enjoyed yourself and laughed so much, and learnt something possibly useless

but fun - you'll learn to like yourself, to express yourself, gain confidence and work wonders on your

self esteem.

S = self, E = esteem, expression, L = laughter, learning, F = friendship, facts.

A 'WORKSHOP' too good to refuse!

The U3A Advanced Ukulele Group were

offered at short notice by the talented Cathy

Welsford and Ange Smith of 'The Wild Women

of Anywhere Beach' Ukulele Group to hold a

Strumming Tricks and Tips workshop which

was held on Saturday afternoon 21 September.

The anticipation and excitement of our

Volunteer Tutors and fellow members of the

U3A Ukulele groups were not disappointed and

spent a captivating three hours absorbing

information and skills to broaden their

experience.

It provided the opportunity to learn about Percussion

Strumming Techniques which included 'chunking',

'triplets' and 'flourish or roll'.

The skills we were taught will, with considerable

practice, enable us to teach other members of the

U3A Ukulele groups in the future.

Cathy and Ange treated us to a couple of unique

songs they have written and recorded themselves -

most enjoyable.

The Advanced Ukulele group would like to thank

U3A for allowing us to access the hall on a Saturday

afternoon to conduct this workshop.
