July 2016 Newsletter
Welcome to our Term 3 newsletter.
Another busy term is behind us. There were so many highlights in
Term 2 —they included the Cub Region Camp, the Venturer
Region Camp on Magnetic Island, the Anzac Day services across
the region, lots of hiking and camping by the Scouts, JOTT at the
Strand and Pallarenda, the Open Day at the Den, the Cu-Jo games
in Ingham, Nighthawk and Queensland Venture. And there is lots
of action planned for Term 3, including the Region Camp on 30
and 31 July.
CULTURAL FEST
We are now into the final straight for Cultural Fest preparation. If
you haven’t already, please put your name on the Roster.
THANK YOU TO OUR LEADERS
On behalf of our members, their parents and carers, we want to
say a huge THANK YOU to our Leaders.
All of our Leaders are volunteers, they all work and they all have
their own family responsibilities. Our Leaders give up their time
(a lot of it on weekends) to make sure our members have the
best Scouting experience possible. Our Leaders are the backbone
of our Scout Group and we want them to know that their hard
work and support is very much appreciated. So, please, next time
you see one of our Leaders, say “thank you”.

Joeys Joeys The Joeys started off Term 2 with the Anzac Day march on the
Strand with the Scouts. They helped Mum celebrate Mothers’
Day, enjoyed a stroll along the Strand for JOTT with the Cubs and
finished the term with the Cu-Jo games at
Ingham. A highlight for the Joeys was a visit to
Michelle’s Ark in Oak Valley. The Joeys enjoyed
meeting (and cuddling) all the animals.
Important Dates for Term 3:
30-31 July: Region Camp
3 September: Region Regatta
12 September: Term ends
CubsCubs The Cubs also had an active term, starting with Cub Region Camp at
Tarmaroo over the Anzac Day long weekend, celebrating 100 years
of Cub Scouting. The PM Scouts marched at the Balgal Beach Anzac
Day ceremony, along with the other Kennedy Region Cub Scouts.
They joined with the Joeys for JOTT and also for the Cu-Jo Games.
And, the Cubs spoilt their mums for Mothers Day with tea AND
cakes at the Den. Yummy!!
Important Dates for Term 3:
30-31 July: Region Camp
3 September: Region Regatta
14 September: Term ends
The Group held its Open Day on May 29.
Thank you to all families who attended.
And a huge thank you to everyone who
participated in the Den “Renovation
Rescue” on the weekend of 21 and 22
May, to get the Den looking spectacular
for our big day.
A reminder that our Open Day is an op-
portunity for all families to have some
fun at the Den, meet the leaders from
all our Sections, participate in our Annu-
al Report Presentation and sample some
tasty treats cooked over the campfire by
our Venturers. I thought last year’s
Lemonade Scones would be hard to
beat, but the cakes this year were pretty
scrummy.
Make sure you don’t miss our Open Day
next year.

At the time of writing, there are 61 days left until
Maryborough is rocked by the arrival of hundreds
of Cub Scouts for the 2016 Cuboree.
Cuboree takes place from 18 to 23 September
2016. It is a fantastic experience for our Cub
Scouts and we are sure that our Cubs who are
attending will have a ball.
We look forward to hearing ALL about it when
you get back.
ScoutsScouts
The Scouts kicked off Term 2 by assisting at the Cub Region Camp at Tarmaroo and then attending the
Dawn Service on the Strand. Thanks to Kiara and Panda for facilitating the early morning start.
Many of our Scouts tested themselves with three Green Level hikes being completed during the Term,
led by Ella Morton, Heidi Rapson and Kelli Brandis (from Charters Towers). These hikes are extremely
gruelling, with the hikers carrying all their equipment, clothing and food for three days, and hiking
approximately around 30 km. An awesome achievement by all of our Scouts. And thank you to the
Leaders for making sure they all came home in one piece!.
The Scouts also attended JOTT on Pallarenda beach, camped at Jourama Falls and participated in
Nighthawk at Bluewater airport, with Pimlico Scouts winning first and third. Well done Scouts!
Important Dates for Term 3:
29 –31 July : Region camp
3 September: Region Regatta
9-11 September: Alligator Creek Camp
30– Sept 3 Oct: Broadwater Creek Camp
VenturersVenturersVenturers
The Venturers continue to live up to their motto “Look Wide”.
The term began with the Venturers hiking for fun at Hidden Valley before heading off to Magnetic Island for the Venturers Region Camp on the Anzac Day long weekend.
The Venturers attended the Dawn Service, and then demon-strated their hiking skills around the beautiful Florence Bay, with some hiking just that little bit further than others. The camp wasn’t nicknamed Survivor Island for nothing!
The Rovers hosted the Venturers for Roventure in May. We are reliably informed that no Venturers were hurt—not so sure about the Rovers ...
The term ended with Nighthawk and Queensland Venture at Mackay. At QV2016, Venturers chose from expeditions to Fraser Island, bushwalking around Rockhampton, abseiling, Great Keppel Island and caving, just to name a few.
As you can see, Larni (Wallace) and Davis (Johnson) had a great time underground.
