SLIET HOSTED ALUMNI MEET

On November 17, 2018, Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering

and Technology hosted Annual Alumni Meet 2K18. Old friends

reunited, nostalgia and memories of past hugged them with a bright

smile, rejuvenating them, making them feel like bachelors again.

About 100 alumni joined for the event. The beauty of the fact was

that Alumni not just came back home but brought their essence of

foreign lands like the Canada, Netherlands, U.S.A. and, Australia. The

proud moment was for all as wing commanders from Indian Air force,

being our Alumni joined the event.

At first phase, the Student-Alumni Interaction was held at ISTE Hall,

Mechanical Block, followed by Training and Placement Cell. All the

alumni and students greeted each other with love and respect.

Felicitation Ceremony took place, where Director In-charge Dr.

J.S. Dhillon along with Dean Student Welfare Dr. D.C. Saxena, Dean

R&C Dr. P.K. Singh and Dr. Manoj Kumar. President of SLIET Alumni

Association, Mr. Winnerjeet Singh presented his welcome address

for the alumni. Chairman SAA Mr. Sukhcharan Singh, Vice-President

Mr. Mandeep Singh Dhami (2004 pass out) along with Mr. Nipun

Kapila (2004 pass out) interacted with the students and alumni,

mixing them all like a single Senior-Junior batch. The interaction was

a great success.

One-Day Training Program on “Beekeeping and Quality Evaluation of Honey”The Department of Food Engineering and Technology, SLIET, Longowal organized One-Day Training Program on “Beekeeping and Quality Evaluation of Honey” on 19th November 2018 under TEQIP-III. The program comprised of expert lectures from industry personnel and academicians as well practical exposure to the beekeeping activities. The coordinators of program were Prof. Vikas Nanda and Dr. C. S. Saini. The programme was held under the chairmanship of Dr. P. S. Panesar, Head of the Department of Food Engineering and Technology. More than 125 students participated in the training programme. The Dean (Academics), Prof. P.K. Singh stated the importance of the training program and said that it would develop the insight of beekeeping practices among the participants and generate entrepreneurship which will significantly contribute towards the rural development. The Acting Director SLIET, Prof. J.S. Dhillion congratulated the Department of Food Engineering and Technology for establishment of Bee-farm and announced that the department would soon start the honey processing and packaging at pilot-scale level.

Report of STTP on RTMR-2018Department of Mechanical Engineering, SLIET has organized one-week STTP on “Recent Trends in Mechatronics and Robotics” sponsored by TEQIP-III during 10-14 Dec., 2018. Total 33 participants participated in this STTP which includes faculties, research scholars from different Institutes/Universities of India. Total 17 keynote speakers from IITs, NITs, DTU, SLIET etc. and Industries of national repute had conducted the theory & practical sessions in the programme. The stress areas of the STTP were neural network, fuzzy logic, bond graph and its application to multi body systems, signal processing and condition monitoring, multi finger grasping and manipulation, modular robots, modeling, simulation and control to robotic manipulators, control of parallel and hybrid manipulators and obstacle avoidance of mobile robots, automation and role of ai in biomedical, electromagnetics and mechatronics. a full day was dedicated for hands on training on Automation Studio by the engineers from Adroit control engineers private Ltd. and Famic Technologies private Ltd. 1. A motivational lecture was delivered by Er. Digant Kumar, Dy. Manager, HMEL Refinery on 4th October, 2018. Dr. Manoj Kumar and Mr. Navneet Goyal coordinated the activity.

2. An introduction programme on “Bharat Scout and Guides” was organized on 10th October 2018 in presence of Shri. Onkar Singh, State organizing Commissioner, Bharat scout and Guides. The event was Co-ordinated by the faculty members Mr. Jonny Singla and Ms.Ankita Omer.

3. An expert lecture on “Latest NDT inspection methods in welding, forging and casting” was delivered by Er. D.N. Gaur, Ex. Chief Engineer and Scientist-H, NPCI on 10th October, 2018. Prof. Kulwant Singh coordinated the activity.

4. ISHRAE-SLIET Chapter was established in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 12th Oct. 2018 in presence of office bearers of ISHRAE Chandigarh chapter, Prof. Shailendra Jain, Director and Prof. Rajesh Kumar, Head (Mechanical Engg. Dept.). Mr. Sumit Kumar and Ms. Ankita Omer shall act as Faculty Advisors and Prof. Rajesh Kumar as Chairman of the Chapter.

5. One-day workshop cum exhibition on “Energy Efficient Building Materials” sponsored by PEDA and BEE was organ ized on 29 Oct .2018 in Department of Mechanical Engineering. The event was coordinated by Mr. Sumit Kumar, Dr. Sunil Kumar and Dr. Indraj Singh under the Chairmanship of Dr. Rajesh Kumar, HoD, Department of Mechanical Engineering.

6. An expert lecture on “Latest trends in welding” was delivered by Er. Honny Garg, Senior Engineer, ISGEC, Yamunanagar, Haryana on 31st October, 2018. Prof. Kulwant Singh and Mr. Navneet Goyal coordinated the activity.

7. An expert lecture on “Quality of Welding Electrodes” was delivered by Er. Sanjay Parmar, Quality Control Engineer, Adani Electrode on 31st October, 2018. Prof. Kulwant Singh and Mr. Navneet Goyal coordinated the activity.

8. An employabil ity Skil l test for Mechanical engineering students under TEQIP-III was organized during 15th-18th Oct. 2018. The event was coordinated by Dr. Indraj Singh.

9. Fourteen students of Mechanical Engineering Department were placed in “Infosys” during campus placement held on

13. A Short Term training programme on “Recent Trends in Mechatronics and R o b o t i c s ” ( RT M R - 2 0 1 8 ) w a s organized during 10th-16th December, 2018. The TEQIP-III sponsored STTP on Emerging Trends in Computing and Networking The TEQIP-III sponsored STTP on Emerging Trends in Computing and Networking was organized by Department of Computer Science & Engineering from December 18 -22, 2018. Computer Science is an ever-emerging field and is witnessing new developments every other day. People from academia, R&D and industry are always curious and need to be abreast with the latest innovations in the domain of computing and networking. This TEQIP-III Sponsored Short-Term Training Programme (STTP) on Emerging Trends in Computing and Networking (ETCN2018) objective remained on to create awareness and provide research directions in the recent and innovative fields such as Cloud Computing, Big Data Analytics, Wireless Sensor Networks and Network Security. This program remained particularly useful for the research scholars, academicians, faculty, industry and other professional in the related fields.

A one-day workshop on PLC, SCADA, HMI&A C DrivesA one-day workshop on PLC, SCADA, HMI& AC Drives was organized by Department of Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering on Saturday, 13th October 2018 at SLIET-Longowal, Sangrur (PB). Workshop is conducted by Automation Systems, Ludhiana (AN ISO 9001:2008 COMPANY) & event is coordinated by Dr. PratibhaTyagi (EIE Deptt.). Topics covered in the workshop are, Programming with PLC, Working on SCADA Systems & HMI, and Operating a Single-Phase Induction Motor. after half day a LIVE demonstration on SCADA system of a pharmaceutical Company. Students are really enjoyed this workshop for many reasons…not least for interacting with professionals from various disciplines who all have the same interest in data visualizations & the insight that was provided are really appreciated. Presentation style was impressive and the bottom line is “Excellent workshop and great fun”

l Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Garg, ASP (Management and Humanities) and Dr. Nikhil Prakash, A. P. (Chemical Engineering) took initiative to attempt and qualify Advanced 'NPTEL–AICTE Faculty Development Programme' online 8 week courses. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Garg successfully completed the course in 'Consumer Psychology' with 92% marks and won Gold Medal Certification. Dr. Nikhil Prakash completed the course in 'Introduction to Polymer Science'. Both courses were completed in October , 2018. The courses were approved by AICTE vide F. No. AICTE/RIFD/FDP through MOOCs/2017-18 dated 24.07.2018.

l Mamta Thakur, the Ph.D Research Scholars from Department of Food Engineering and Technology, SLIET Longowal has recently been awarded the prestigious Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Senior Research Fellowship (CSIR-SRF). She is conducting her research under the guidance of Dr. Vikas Nanda - Professor in Department of Food Engineering and Technology, SLIET, Longowal.

l Dr. A. S. K. Sinha (A.P) &Mr.Ramnik Aggarwal (Sr. Technician) organized an industrial tour to Shreyans Paper Industries, Ahmedgarh for DCT final year students on 12 October 2018. Forty two students visited the industry and got the practical knowledge of working of various sections and different types of equipments like multiple effect evaporators, paper machine, rotary washers, bleaching towers, and pulping reactors etc. A special lecture was given by G.M. (R&D) to students regarding working of industry and latest technical developments in this sector.

l Dr. Nikhil Prakash, A. P. (Chemical Engineering) was Organizing Committee Member of 'State Level Science Project Contest for IX and X standard school students' held at SLIET Longowal on 16th November 2018.

l Dr AvinashThakur,has attended the international conference on Seamless Chemical Engineering in Service of Humanity: Opportunities & Challenges during CHEMCOM-2018” 71st Annual Session of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers,“ Organized by Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, Doaba Regional Centre at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar NIT Jalandhar and also chaired a session during the international conference.

l Dr. Pratibha Tyagi chaired the Special session in 3rd On-line International Conference on Ancient Mathematics & Science for Computing(AMSCO2K18) World's First Series of On-line International Conference on Ancient Mathematics and Science Jointly organized by GCRI and CAMSR In Association with GIIM, USA and VKSU, INDIA ON 23rd -24th November, 2018.

Northern India Section (SAE-NIS) was held at Lovely Professional University (LPU), Jalandhar from 09th-13th October 2018. This competition tasks engineering students all over India to design and build human-powered vehicle namely “EFFICYCLE”.

The Sant Longowal Institute of Engg.& Technology (SLIET), Longowal team “Green Rangers” under the guidance of Dr. Shankar Singh, Professor (Mechanical) as Faculty Advisor, conceptualized a green and innovative project, which required designing and later fabricating a three-wheeled hybrid human powered vehicle. This pollution free and reliable vehicle has the capacity to act as a good viable option for local transportation.

The SLIET team“GREEN RANGERS” participated in Efficycle 2018 and outperformed the 70 teams including IITs & NITs and were adjudged the Overall Winner of Efficycle 2018 and got a cash award of `1 Lakh. The team also won the category for the Durability Winner (prize money- `30,000); Cost Award (prize money-`20,000) and Drive Excellence Award (Prize Money- ̀ 10,000).

The Great achievement is usually born of great sacrifice and excellent team work.

The team under the dynamic guidance of Prof. Shankar Singh has also won Over All Winner Award in 'Efficycle 2015, held at LPU, Jalandhar. The aspirations and efforts of the team are well appreciated by Dr. Shailendra Jain, Director, SLIET.
