SRC Report 

The SRC executive and Stage 3 SRC students have been developing a project called “Ruse Barnyard”. Using a portion of the money raised in the 2016 Fun Run Fundraiser, the students have been very busy putting together a plan to build a sustainable garden. This garden will include a variety of seasonal vegetables and a chicken coop. They will be purchasing 5 chickens and will be assisting Mr Cormack in constructing a chicken coop. They are also making two scarecrows to place in the garden. The SRC will be supplying each classroom with a small recycle bin in which to place their fruit scraps each day after fruit break. These bins will be emptied each day and used as compost in the garden. The project has a manager, a treasurer, gardeners and harvesters to help make the project a success. Later on down the track they hope to have fresh vegetables and eggs to sell to the school community. On Wednesday, 22nd of June, the SRC will be holding a mufti day to raise funds to help Lucy McGurn represent our region at the state netball carnival. The theme for this fundraiser is “Crazy Day”. Students may wear crazy clothes, crazy hair, etc and the penalty for being out of school uniform is a gold coin donation. A letter home will follow. Mrs Shirley Smith Leadership Coordinator 

 

 

 

LMBR Learning Management Business Reform 

Ruse Public School will transition to the new NSW public schools’ finance system and a new bank account on 17th October 2016. As a result there will be changes to the way we are able to accept parent and carer payments.  Further information will be provided in the near future. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we prepare to transition to our new finance system.

This year’s fun run fundraiser received a total of $8520. A big thank you to all participating families and friends. Your interest and support is greatly appreciated.

LARC Yesterday a group of Aboriginal students from across our Community of Schools met at Ruse Public School and participated in a variety of cultural activities. This was a student­led initiative and the day was co­organised with the Aboriginal student leaders and staff from our schools. 

All students had a great time and learned a great deal from the experience. 

   

   

 Zone Cross Country Carnival Well done to all our students who participated in the Zone Cross Country Carnival last Friday, 10th June. You all did so amazingly well and it was great to see so many families come along to support their children and the school. Overall, Ruse PS placed equal 4th on the day, which is an outstanding achievement for our school. Here are just a few photos from the day. Please visit our facebook page to view many more: www.facebook.com/ruseps 

  

 

Congratulations to the students who placed at the Zone Carnival. We are very proud of you. Kynan Summers (1st), Shontelle Cage (3rd),  Lucy McGurn (4th), Zaine George (4th) and Kiara Draper (4th) represented the Zone yesterday.  We will update you on facebook with how they went.  

 

 

 

Debating The Ruse Allstars Debating Team competed in Round 2 and 3 of the Premiers Debating Challenge this fortnight. In Week 7, they debated against Campbelltown North Public School. The topic was “That students should only be allowed 30 minutes of screen time on school days”. Ruse argued for the negative and won the debate. In Week 8, they debated against Woodland Road Public School on the topic, “That parents should pay their children when their school work improves”. Again, Ruse debated for the negative and put together very convincing arguments, however, this time were unsuccessful in winning. Well done girls on two fantastic debates and we look forward to your final debate early in Term 4. Ms Rogers  Debating Coordinator. 

  Healthy Hints 

LUNCHBOX TIPS     

For a balanced lunchbox we suggest   

•  A main meal (sandwich, wrap, salad) containing veggies and a protein food (meat, fish, chicken, egg, cheese) 

•  A piece of fruit •  A healthy snack (e.g. veggie sticks) •  A drink (water is the best choice) •  An extra snack can be included once a week. Try to reserve these for days when your child needs more energy

 P&C Fundraising McDonalds Family Fun Night ­ In the last week of term no one feels like cooking, so on Monday 27th June pop into McDonalds Woodbine between 5pm and 7pm and the school will receive 15% of the counter sales. Please note drive thru does not count, so make sure you go to the store and assist our school.   

 

   

Canteen The P&C have made a decision, in line with the Healthy Kids Association guidelines, to no longer sell lollies. The lollies we have are being sold until finished. In the future we may have a lolly day as a one off. In place of this we will offer muffins, fruit, carrot/celery sticks with french onion dip, mini hot dogs, jelly cups, zooper doopers and yoghurt and fruit cups all of which are 50c each. There will no longer be any items available at lunchtime or recess under 50c. Please consider  this when giving your child money so they are not disappointed. Please note the mentioned items are available at lunchtime on different days and not to be ordered in lunch bags.  Meal Deal Day All orders must be back by 17th June. If you wish to order one the meal deal will be:  1 Cheeseburger                                                   1 chicken burger 1 small choc (plain)                               or          1 small choc (plain) 1 water or softdrink (small)                               1 water or softdrink (small)   The Canteen is now open again on Fridays. Thank you to our new mums/carers who have come to assist.  Please note iceblocks will be sold up until 10 minutes before bell time.  Election Day Barbecue The P&C will be holding an election day barbecue at the school on 2nd July, 2016. Please leave your name and number at the office for Kylie Devine if you are able to assist on the day. If you have a preferred time to volunteer please specify. If we have enough helpers we will be able to have shifts to share the workload.   Holiday Activities Wests Leagues Club Coaching clinics will be held during the July school holidays and will be conducted on Monday 4th ­ Wednesday 6th July. Please contact Yared on 0404 457088 for more information and bookings. Lakeside Golf Club Camden is offering Golf for Girls 7­14 years on Monday 4th July and Thursday 7th July. Girls will be able to learn the basic skills and etiquette of the game of golf! The clinic costs $15 per day and includes lunch and activities. For further information contact Helen Lowe on 0438 986169 or email lakesidegirlsgolf@gmail.com. Closing date for entries is Monday 27th June.  Wests Kids Disco is on again. Keep the kids entertained and bring them down to Wests on Wednesday 6th July from 11am ­ 1pm in the Auditorium. Cost is $5 per child, with great prizes to be given away. Please note that all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult, with free entry for all parents.  The Wizard of Oz Show is coming to Wests. The show is to be held on Sunday 17th July from 11am in the Wests Auditorium. Tickets are $15 per person.  Please call reception on 4628 4188 for tickets or see our website: www.westslc.com.au for futher details.    Campbelltown Camden Band Join the Campbelltown Camden Bank 1st Year Learners group commencing the first week of term 3. The range of instruments taught are Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet/Cornet, Baritone, Tuba, Bass Guitar and Drums/Percussion. Lessons are in a group, held on Monday evenings 6.30 ­ 7.30pm at Ambarvale in the ‘Harold Pollard” band hall of wickfield Circuit (behind Aldi) next to Council’s Youth Centre. These lessons are available for children 8 years of age and above as well as parents and other adults.  Cost for membership and tuition is approximately $3 per week with a further 12 month $25 hiring fee if you do not provide your own instrument. A Band tutor book is used with a once off cost of $20 to be used for the first 2 years. Check out their website ccdb.org.au or telephone 0416 256039.
