The FIRST SHOT event at POINT NEPEAN, 5th August 2014Sorrento Portsea RSL Flinders Community Awards - First Shot EventOn September the 10th 2014 Mr Greg Hunt M.P presented 33 Sorrento Portsea Volunteers Certificates of Appreciation (see pictured below). Here is some of what Greg had to say.
“Attending the First Shot was something I felt incredibly lucky to be part of.
To organise an event of this magnitude is truly a remarkable feat. This event was the perfect tribute to the Australian troops who fought in World War 1 and in the many conflicts that followed, and a fantastic way to commemorate 100 years to the day, since the start of the first World War.
Everyone here played an enormous role in ensuring the event was a success, which is why I am honoured to present you all with a Flinders Community Award.
I would particularly like to thank John Prentice, Michael Jeffreson and Arthur Hicowe who dedicated countless hours of their own time to make this event happen.
You’ve set a high standard for the Centenary of ANZAC Commemorations and I hope other groups and organizations will follow your lead as commemorations take place across the country.
Through this very successful event you have helped to pass on the baton on to the next generation and instil a sense of ANZAC pride among our youngest community members.”
