Social Work in Asean AgendaRegional Kick-off Meeting on Development of “Asean Declarationon Promotion of Social Work” was held on October 28-29, 2019 inHanoi, Vietnam. Mrs Amy Bala wasrepresented MASW for the meeting. A number of regulations onsocial work are stipulated in the Labour Code, the Law on theElderly, the Law on Persons with Disabilities, the Law on ChildrenAffairs, and the Law on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control.

Road to Social Work Act

Social Work Profession Dialogue was held on October 31, 2019 at Institut Sosial Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. The program gathered social workers from government agencies, social work educators, NGO, volunteers and government representatives to get more understanding about Social Work and looking for mutual cooperation in term of helping the needy.

Jom Breakfast Program was already held twice on October 9 and 23, 2019 - a smart networking and partnership between IOJ-MASW-IACT-SCASFT. Thank you Institut Onn Jaafar for initiate the program and thank you the volunteers for the effort to make the kids happy.

Empower Child Care ProviderMASW empower child care provider by conducting Home-based ChildCare Training (KAPTR). KAPTR (3) workshop was conducted on August 4to September 29, 2019 at Lembah Subang, Selangor which involve 15participants. The aims for the project is to empower the child careprovider with essential knowledge and skills to nurture their youngchildren in a holistic and conducive environment. The closing ceremonywas held on September 29, 2019. Congratulation to all the participants.

SUPPORT STATEMENT ON EFFORT TO TABLE THE SOCIAL WORK PROFESSION BILL by MASW PresidentThe Malaysian Association of Social Workers fully support the Government’s effort and determination in tabling the Social Work Profession Bill to the Parliament by end of December.The Social Work Profession Bill is imperative not merely giving recognition to social work as a profession, but it provides aframework and mechanism to develop a strong profession of social work as well as competent social workers based on knowledge, skills, values and code of ethics, standards of competence and standards in national and global social work education. Hence, this Social Work Profession Bill, when enacted later will be the first step as well as the Government’s commitment to develop competent and adequate human capital of social workers in resolving increasingly complex social issues, in which threatening the safety and well-being of society, especially the vulnerable groups such as the children, women,elderly, disabled, homeless, drug addicts, victims of human trafficking, refugees and others.It is our hope that all parties, especially the members of the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara, will support the Social Work Profession Bill when it is tabled later.
