RETREAD SALE – BRANCH MEETING, MONDAY 3 OCTOBER

Do you have items of old gear sitting around unused, too good to throw away but already

replaced with something better? Perhaps another member could find a good home for it? I

have gloves, air pressure gauges, bikie bags, wet weather gear etc. Pay a few dollars for Branch

funds / Child Cancer. Others may have retread gear to bring along?

MARSHALLS NEEDED FOR K2 CYCLE RACE – SATURDAY 29 OCTOBER

Starts & finishes in Tairua. About six extra marshalls needed for this year. Each marshall escorts about 100 of the total 1500 participants. Each marshall leads their group out of town with hazard lights flashing to warn on-coming cars as the road is not closed. Once out in the open you then drop back along the centre line keeping your group to the left so they don't spread out over the whole road and you basically spend the day patrolling along your group, dealing with any offs and keeping them as safe as best you can. There are several Police cars and Ambulances out on the circuit too. The organizers, Adventure Race Coromandal (ARC), pay $150 each to cover expenses for the day. The race starts at 8:00 am and generally finishes around 3:00pm so it is a long slow day in the saddle but an interesting one. Contact Chris direct if you are willing to help. Chris Brown, Ulysses #4797 Phone. 827 3474 Mob. 027 257 6602.

ANNUAL SPUD GROWING COMPETITION

12 POINT CHALLENGE SOCIAL – 3 September @ Ruakura Club

Waz (Warwick Powrie), in his blue shark suit (more like a blue whale, Waz) had the Holy Moly prize

- rode his bike from Mercer to Honda Hamilton with a flat rear tyre where Christine and David

stayed behind at work on Saturday afternoon just to repair Waz's tyre. Disgraceful award went to

the very graceful Heather and Jim Galt in their Where's Wally suits. And people's choice,

unilaterally decided by Topher, went to Alan Baker who visited 16 sites - two gravel, two distance

Morning Tea

A group of seniors were sitting around talking about all their ailments. "My arms have got so weak I can hardly lift this cup of coffee," said one.

"Yes, I know," said another. "My cataracts are so bad; can't even see my coffee." "I couldn't even mark an "X" at election time because my hands are so crippled," volunteered a third.

"What? Speak up! What? I can't hear you, said one elderly lady!" "I can't turn my head because of the arthritis in my neck," said one, to which several nodded weakly in agreement.

"My blood pressure pills make me so dizzy!" exclaimed another. “I forget where I am and where I'm going," said another.

"I guess that's the price we pay for getting old," winced an old man as he slowly shook his head. The others nodded in agreement. "Well, count your Blessings," said a woman cheerfully, "Thank God we can all still drive.
