PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Congratulations to our zone swimmers who represented our school so well. Alex- 6S,
Anabelle-5T, Catherine- 3/4G, Catherine- 2/3Q, Dilan- 5T, Ethan-3L, Hannah-5A,
Hyunho-5/6D, Irene-4M, Lachlan-6S, Murray-6S, Nirvana-6S, Osborn-3L, Ronni-6B
and William-5/6D.
Mrs Skennerton and Mrs Buwalda were proud of the behaviour, effort and
sportsmanship of this group of students.
Special congratulations to Ronni who came 3rd in 11yrs freestyle and 2nd in
breaststroke and to Annabelle who came 3rd in 11yrs 50m freestyle for whole zone.
Our school swimming carnival ribbons will be presented in week 9 of this term.

Meet the Teacher
Thank you to those parents who joined us in classrooms and/or via zoom for our Meet the Teacher sessions. Overall the attendance was very high with a total of 322 connections made to our Zooms. Whilst not our usual format, this was still a successful event. Thank you to our dedicated teachers who gave up their time for this valued event.
Thank you also to the 117 parents who responded to our survey. We appreciate your feedback. A summary of the results showed parents appreciated the opportunity to visit the learning space, the efficiency of the presentation and the flexibility of Zoom with work arrangements. Parents also said they liked to be able to see the teachers. Staff were grateful for the many who thanked us for our time and effort, not just for the sessions but for the daily work we do.
Whilst most parents realised we had health guidelines to follow, the survey showed that in the future parents would like greater personalisation and the chance to speak with your child’s teacher (face to face or via Zoom) and to hear about classroom routines and to ask questions. Parents also want more information about curriculum, how we teach and how they can support at home. We are excited as this is part of our Strategic Improvement Plan and is a great opportunity for us to hold informative sessions about specific topics for parents.
Parents should have now received a copy of the term information letters outlining specific areas to be taught for each stage. This will be sent each term (usually in week 2). We look forward to meeting to discuss your child’s individual progress and learning behaviours at parent teacher interviews in a few weeks. More information will be sent home soon. On Tuesday night (9 March at 7p.m) at the P & C meeting I will be outlining an overview of the Strategic Directions for
our school for the next 4 years. You are warmly invited to join us to engage with our SIP give your input into our school
directions.
I would like to congratulate our incoming P &C executive (as mentioned later in this newsletter). I look forward to working
with you to achieve excellence for our children.
SRE and Ethics returns
It was wonderful to see the return of our valued volunteers who teach SRE and Ethics. We are grateful for their time each
week. Thank you also to Ms Gerard who spent many hours organising the timetable and class rolls and inducting the
volunteers.

Assembly Week 7
Next Wednesday afternoon we will be holding a special assembly to present the SRC and library monitor badges to
students. Students receiving badges must return their note by this Friday in order to be able to participate in the live
Zoom. Parents of students receiving badges are invited to attend via Zoom (a note has been sent home with the link.
Please ensure you register). We are excited that the concert band will be playing live and the band committee has sent
the link to those parents. Please note we are unable to guarantee entry to late parents as we will be focussed on running
a smooth assembly for our students at school. As such we ask that you are in the Zoom at 2p.m ready for a 2:15p,m start.
Awards System
Did you know that if your child received 5 merit awards (class awards or program achieve
awards) he/she can trade them for a Principals’ award. Principals awards will be
presented at assemblies and names will be put in the newsletter. I look forward to
presenting the first Principals’ awards soon.
Teachers as Effective Educators
As stated in our Zooms I am proud of the dedicated and professional teaching and non-teaching staff at our school. Your
child may have recently told you they have had a casual teacher for a day. Parents sometimes worry about this. Whilst
sometimes a teacher (or their family members) are sick, in addition to School Development Days there are also some
planned professional learning days throughout the year. Recently teachers have undertaken their annual Performance
Development Process. This process aims to ensure a skilled and effective workforce to maximise student outcomes.
Teachers set goals against professional teaching standards and with their supervisor, they map out professional learning
they require. Teachers also actively work together in Stage Planning Days. These days focus on the analysis of
assessment data in order to design programs to meet your child’s needs. This collaborative practice is essential. Both
important professional opportunities are planned and structured to ensure the highest quality teachers for your child. On
days when teachers are involved in such planned professional learning, the class program continues with a casual
teacher. We hope this helps you understand and support such high impact professional practices at our school.

Parent Helpers
Helpers are a valued and integral part of our EHPS school community. All helpers must go through a rigorous induction
process to ensure they are well supported to work with our children. Currently we have only returned essential service
parent helpers such as band, SRE, Ethics and uniform shop. As the restrictions hopefully lift in the coming weeks and
months, we hope to be able to welcome back our valued community helpers.
If you would like to be a parent helper at our school in the future this year when restrictions ease, you will need to
undertake the following:
• Complete the Declaration for Volunteers and non-child related contractors

• Present with a competed declaration and photo identification (as listed on the form) at our office.
• Complete the EHPS Helper Agreement (see attached PDF)
• Complete our school based helper induction. The next helper induction will be held via zoom on 16 March at

High School Expressions of Interest
Dear Parents,
Thank you for your attendance at the Zoom information session about moving into high school in 2022 and to support you to complete the high school expression of interest (EOI) form. It was great to see so many parents (46) joining our information session in order to support our students’ transition to high school.
Parents who wish to apply for a support class (for students with a disability only) in 2022 will need to discuss their application with our learning support team before completing the EOI form. Please email the school office to organise a time discuss this.
High school expression of interest (EOI) forms are due to our school office by 19 March 2021. All EOI forms must be submitted to our school office.

Selective High School Placement Test 2021 for entry to Year 7 in 2022.
The test will be held on Thursday 11 March 2021 at 9.00am at your child's allocated test centre.
Parents must drop students off at the entrance to the test centre by 9.00am and
return promptly at 1.30pm to pick them up
Religious Education at Epping Heights Update
We are pleased to welcome an additional Hindu teacher to teach Scripture at our school. The school now
currently offers Special Religious Education classes for 30 minutes each Friday for:
• Years K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Protestant classes
• Years K, 1/2, 3/4, 5/6 Catholic classes
• Years K-2, 3/4, 5/6 Islam classes
• Years 1/2, 3/4 Hindu classes
• Years 3, 4, 5, 6 Ethics classes
K & 5-6 Hindu and K- 2 Ethics are currently unavailable so students have been placed in non-scripture this term.
Non Scripture means your child will be supervised while independently reading for the 30 minutes.

Dear wonderful Epping Heights families and carers,
We’re excited to announce the start of the 2021 NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge! It opened on the
1st of March and will close for student entries on the 20th of August, 2021.
This is a wonderful opportunity to encourage our students to dig into high-quality literature and to
read far and wide across the genres. In our library lessons this week we are learning how to find
these special books and how to log them in our personal online lists.
In a nutshell:
• Students in Kindergarten – Year 2 can record any book from the PRC list that has been read
to them. They do not need to have read this book themselves. Students need to record 30
books that have been read to them. These are covered across our library and class readings
so I will log the books for students in these grades. Yay!
• Students in Year 3 – Year 6 must have read the book themselves. They can record any book
from the PRC list that they have read since the last challenge ended (20th August, 2020).
Students must read 20 books in total from the PRC list. They must read 15 books from their
grade category (if they are in year 3, they must read 15 books from the 3-4 category). They
are able to read 5 books they are outside of their category.
Each year group has slightly different guidelines to complete the challenge, so please see the QR
codes below for details.

Upon completion of the challenge, successful students will be given a certificate at the end of the
year. I hope you’ll join us in encouraging our students to love and learn from the books around
them, the Premier’s Reading Challenge is a really achievable and enriching goal.

CARLINGFORD HIGH SCHOOL VIRTUAL TOUR AND ENROLMENT INTO YEAR 7 2022
This year in lieu of our usual Open Night, prospective parents for Year 7 2022 are invited to visit the school website for information regarding potential enrolments.
